Choosing a side of health to focus your business toward, fitness, diet, etc.
The first decision you need to make is exactly what you're interested in. Obviously, your passion would make the best business investment, as it's likely to be something that you care about and are interested in learning more about. If you love working with bones and mending broken arms, maybe you should set up an orthopedic clinic. If you are fascinated by nutrition and helping people eat better, focus your health business on nutrition. Choosing something you're very interested in as your career will help you to stay involved longer, as well as increase your chances of success. After all, we're all more likely to put forth effort for something that we enjoy doing.
Next, think about what you're already trained in. Do you have specific schooling that will help you in one area of the health industry? For example, if you're a certified dietician, you might want to think about focusing your business on dietetics. Or if you want to branch out a bit, you could try to find another aspect of health that would mesh well with dietetics, like fitness. You could include both diet and fitness without having one become more focused than the other. Choosing your health business based on your current knowledge and skills allows you to save time and money because you're already trained. It also allows you to focus on your strengths, which will be very beneficial in the long run. Now it's time to think more generally. It's great to choose a career that you're in love with, but it's not really going to do you any good if there isn't a market demand for your product or service. So before you can start your business, you must research what kinds of health businesses are currently succeeding. What's out there? What types of products or services do most health businesses offer? If it's in line with what you want to do, that's great! You might actually be on to a good idea that will really help you go places. But you should also consider whether the market has "room" for another business in your industry. Are there already 7 personal trainers/nutritionist in your town of 5,000? If that's the case, you may either need to move or choose a different focus of your business. If, for some reason, you find that there isn't any health business remotely similar to yours, that can be good and bad. You just need to do a bit more research to determine which one it is. Being the only business of your type can give you a monopoly of sorts on your product or service, which can be very beneficial for your business' success. Maybe people have always been waiting for the product or service you offer, and finally they have the opportunity to find it! This means that you have a great idea and will probably have a great business. However, it could also mean that there aren't any businesses like yours because there is no demand for your product of service. This could be because of your location and the demographics of the people in your area. Perhaps your business would do very well in a another location.
