Dieting at work
It is possible to lose weight while sitting behind a desk for 8 hours a day. If employees start taking in fewer calories, they will start to lose weight over time. The weight loss may not be as significant as employees that diet and exercise, but it will still be something. Instead of snacking on crackers, offer fresh fruits and vegetables to your employees. Apples and carrots are a great snack and they can help to curve the sugar cravings. The other benefit of filling up with vegetables and fruits is that they have more water in them from other foods so they make you feel full. This can help you eat less when lunchtime comes around. Instead of drinking soda, opt for water. Soda is nothing more than empty calories and it will only put more weight on your body, especially around your waistline. When you eat fewer calories, you will actually feel better if the calories you consume are healthy. Eating 200 calories worth of whole grains, protein, and vegetables will give you the energy you need unlike 200 calories from a can of soda. If your employees decide to go on a diet, make sure you offer them nutritious foods. Diets are only effective if the quality of the foods are nutritious and will help the body. The hardest part about any diet is giving up the junk food. Your body has developed cravings and you will find it hard to grab a bottle of water over your favorite soda pop. This is why a lot of diets actually have a 2-3 week period where you are completely restricted from certain foods. A popular diet with many people is the "South Beach Diet". This diet is great for an office that wants to lose weight because everyone basically needs to eat the same foods. For 2 weeks, you are basically going to cleanse your body of sugars and empty calories. Carrots are actually not allowed because they have natural sugars. Eventually you will be allowed to re-introduce some foods back into your diet. Most people will lose about 10 pounds or more during the first 2 weeks as their bodies are adjusting to healthier food options. The best part about this diet is the weight you initially lose is on your waistline, so it is possible to get back into a smaller pant size in 2 weeks. Dieting at work is easy if you can get a couple people to do it with you. Keep in mind that crash-diets don't work (the 48 hour diets and other miracle weight loss programs). A good diet will help you cleanse out the sugary and empty calories and then help you train your body how to consume these foods in moderation. Of course if you are trying to encourage weight loss in the office, you really need to encourage your employees to get some physical exercise. Exercise isn't just about losing weight; it is about keeping your body healthy. If a person can get in at least 30 minutes of exercise a day they will significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, bone loss, and high blood pressure.
