Employees engaged in health and safety programs

Are you on the fence about adding an employee health and safety program to your company? Many companies are still on the fence and not sure if they should add one to their company or not. If you aren't sure if you should add a health and safety program to your company, here are some things that might get you thinking otherwise.

Employees do not need to invest any money into the program. This is huge for them as they may initially think that this is just one more way in which the company is out to make money off of them.

How much will you earn from the wellness program? For every $1 you invest in the program, your annual savings will come to about $3.63. This is if your entire staff is involved with the program and people are focused on health. When they are able to see that they have lost weight or they are getting healthier, they will start to appreciate the program. Your company will see returns in a number of different ways. You will have higher productivity from your healthier employees but then you will also have other benefits as well. Some of these benefits will include reduced absenteeism and reduced health care costs.

If you promote the plan well and it is one that really gets your staff involved, it won't be hard to get 100% of the people in your company working on the plan. In order to pitch the plan correctly you must be able to focus on getting the right people to help you out. This means you want to go after some personal trainers that will become part of the program along with a nutritionist and also medical examiners that can come in and perform the health evaluations.

Increasing personal health awareness among your staff is vital. There are not too many employees that really do take the time to get in shape and to focus on their health. As an employer you need to do this because it is a great way for you to be able to able to show your employees that you are invested in them but it will benefit your company in so many other ways. Your employees will be able to see and feel the benefits of the program as long as they are truly committed to it. As they start to feel better and their self-esteem is improving from the program you can start to record these changes and to know that the wellness program is actually working and making a difference.

Depending upon how much money you are willing to invest into the wellness program you can see rapid and surprising results from your staff. Here are some of the things that other companies are using to sell the safety and health programs to their employees and to really get them committed to it:

  • Weight Watchers online or a free membership

  • Personal health coaching for your employees which helps them with medical conditions and physical ailments along the way

  • Online tracking of their progress

  • Yearly free physical examinations and immunizations

As your staff gets involved with health and safety programs and they are able to see it working on their coworkers and others, it will make it much easier for them to really commit to it and to see that it can benefit their life in some way. Set an example for your staff and really get involved in the program as well. When they see you are eating healthy and focused on getting in shape, it may inspire them to do the same.
