Eyeglass frames

Eyes. Poets say that they're the windows to the soul. They communicate, they reveal (in other words: don't lie to your wife unless you're wearing sunglasses), they display love or hate, sadness or joy. All this, and we see with them, too. It's easy to forget our eyes, just like it's easy to forget that we're breathing. But as soon as you can't make out the words on your kid's PTA meeting announcement, or you have to hold your lover's "miss you" note out at arm's length, you know there's a problem. Whether far-sighted, near-sighted, suffering from astigmatism, or a combination of those three, the fact is that you can't see clearly. Not being able to see clearly is a problem on a lot of levels. It's a danger when driving or working with any kind of machinery, even your basic mixer. It's a nuisance because you can't function as easily as you might be able too. It can even be an embarrassment. How many of us have laughed at friends (or strangers across the room) as they squint at the menu held out at arm's length and then give up and just order spaghetti? Your eyes need help, and it's up to you to provide it.

So you've finally admitted that you need glasses. Don't worry! Stop thinking of all those super-geek jokes and embrace this opportunity. Not only do glasses improve your state of life, fix a real medical problem, and help you see, they're a great way to accessorize! Picking the right pair of glasses is an important decision. You need the right prescription so that the glasses will help you see. Another consideration is the price. Glasses are a lot more expensive than your average prescription, and nobody wants to pay more than they have to. Also, you have to pick the glasses that are right for you! When picking your glasses you have to take into consideration your face shape, your eye size, and, of course, your personality!

Obviously, when buying eyeglasses, the lenses are the most import part, at least for your eyes. But for the rest of you, the eyeglass frame is what's most important, and it's the part that you get to choose. There are tons of things to consider when choosing your eyeglass frame: the color, your coloring, the shape, the shape of your face, the style and how it fits your personality.

When choosing your frames, instead of trying on thousands and thousands of frames in a desperate effort to decide which one looks good on you, just consider the following general rules from the Vision Council of America.

When deciding on the best eyeglass frame for your face shape, make sure that the eyeglass frame does the following things:
1. The eyeglass frame's shape and the face of your shape should contrast with each other.
2. Make sure that your face size and the size of your eyeglass frames fit each other. This means that if you have a tiny face, no matter what the Olsen twins wear, you're probably not going to want enormous eyeglass frames.
3. Decide what your best feature is-like your eyes, or maybe your naturally red lips-and make sure that your eyeglass frames repeat that feature. So green frame for green eyes.
Ok. Now that we've done generals, let's go for specifics. Here's a list of the most typical face shapes and the perfect eyeglass frames for each one.
Round: If your face is round, and you want to make it look thinner, go for eyeglass frames that are narrow and rectangular shaped eyeglass frames.

Oval: Count yourself lucky if you've got an oval shape, because you've already got a natural balance. Choose eyeglass frames that are the same width or wider than the widest part of your face. You can also choose ones that are shaped like walnuts.

Oblong: If you want your face to look shorter, try ones that are long from the top to the bottom, or ones with fancy decorations on the sides.

Triangle part 1: If your forehead is narrower than your cheek and chin, you will look best with eyeglass frames with a cat-eye shape or that have bright colors. These eyeglass frames will emphasize the top part of your face.

Triange part 2: If your forehead is wide and your chin is small, you need the opposite of Triangle part 1. Go for eyeglass frames that are light, maybe even rimless, to deemphasize that great forehead.

Diamond: If you have a diamond-shaped face, chances are you have killer cheekbones. Bring these out with really interesting eyeglass frames, or even rimless ones. Be dramatic!

Square: If you want your face longer and softer-looking, buy eyeglass frames that are narrow, like small ovals.
