Getting your employees started with weight loss
When getting your employees started with weight loss the first thing that you are going to want to do is talk to them. When you are talking to your employees you are going to want to be honest with them about the cost of excess weight, along with the illnesses that come with it. Make sure that you are honest and direct with your employees about how this affects your company. Tell your employees about how it is hard to offer better benefits and higher wages because of how much money you are spending on supporting illnesses that could be prevented through a healthier lifestyle. You do not want to make the weight loss problem all about money for your company; this is not going to help your employees get started with weight loss. You also want to make sure that you tell your employees about any concerns that you have for their well-being, this can make some employees feel touched because you are showing that you care, which can help to motivate them to lose that extra weight. If you are going to start helping your employees lose weight you are going to need to be in it for the long term. There is more to helping your employees to lose weight then just pointing them in the right direction. Not to mention that you are not going to be able to tackle the weight loss in just a single night, obesity took years to occur, so it is going to take time to fix. Once you have gotten your employees started with weight loss you are going to need to stand next to them every step of the way. Doing this will help your employees stay focused by not losing sight of their goals, you will be there to remind them of what their goals are and to help them achieve them. One of the best ways to get your employees started on losing weight is to offer them some kind of an incentive to lose weight. The incentives that you offer can be vary; some companies might give cash bonuses or gift certificates for reaching certain milestones. Other companies might offer discounts on health insurance premiums. You can also turn the incentives into a group thing and have teams of employees, where the team that loses the most overall weight wins a reward, which can be an afternoon off or a frozen yogurt party. The reason that this is important to do is because losing weight can be a drag, you have to give up a lot of things that you love, not to mention exercising is hard work. To get more people involved and to help make losing weight easier you need to make it fun. Money is not the only thing that people will work for, all that they really need is some type of concrete reward to work towards. Be creative when you are coming up with your incentives, people will still strive to lose the weight as long as what they are doing is fun and rewarding.
