Health tips for a healthier staff

watercoolertalk10053456.jpg Working on improving your employee's health? You need to teach your employees some basics when it comes to caring for their bodies and to reduce the amount of time they are taking off work due to sickness. If you want to help your employees improve their health, here are some great employee health tips you should follow:

Introduce healthy food
One way to work on improving your employee's health is by getting rid of the vending machines. You need to get rid of the food that causes them to feel sluggish. Soda and candy provide temporary energy and it is not going to last throughout the day. These short busts of energy also have a price to pay as many of them cause you to have a sugar crash. Healthy food is a great way to encourage your employees to be healthier and to show them you are committed to their health. Granola bars, water, vitamin water, fruit juice, and nuts are healthier snacks that are going to promote better health for your staff.

When you have staff meetings and other things, don't bring in doughnuts and bagels. Instead you should bring in bran muffins along with fresh fruit. You have healthier food options around the office to encourage the employees to start eating better. How about bringing in a vegetable tray for a snack for your employees to have? This is another great way in which you can encourage healthier eating habits.

Reduce Stress

Employees may be taking time off and suffering from health problems because they are under a great deal of stress. It is important to work on reducing the stress load your employees are under in order to help them work harder. Healthy employees that are stress free also won't have as many health concerns like high blood pressure and kidney infections. The other thing that you will notice is that employees that aren't suffering from stress will have a higher appreciation for their job and the employee morale will increase.

Another great way to work on reducing stress is by including an exercise room in the building or offering a pass to the gym. You need to encourage your employees to eat healthier and to also take time to exercise. Exercise helps to reduce stress as you are able to relax the muscles and push them to work harder. Encourage your employees to take time out after lunch or during a break to go for a walk around the building or to the onsite gym where they can get some tension out so they won't feel as much stress and pressure.

Health Insurance
You also need to look for other ways to show your employees that you are working on having a healthier office by providing them with health insurance. Health insurance makes a visit to the doctor affordable and it helps them to have insurance for their children as well. Look into multiple insurance options that are affordable for your company and also affordable for your employees. High deductible plans can be cheaper but you do need to consider the cost and financial strain that it can put on your employees.

As you are shopping around for different health insurance companies to work with, you should also look for an insurance company that provides free preventative checkups and shots. If you can schedule a time for a doctor to come in and give free flu shots to your entire staff, you can really save yourself a lot of lost time and productivity. Employees won't have a high risk of getting sick and needing to take time off.
