How much exercise is enough
When it comes to losing weight the main thing that you need to remember is that it is a balancing act of calories. On one side you have the calories that you have consumed through the foods that you have eaten and on the other side you have the calories that you have used each day through normal activities and exercise. Knowing this information you can easily see that in order to lose weight you are going to need to use more calories than you consume. The best way to use more calories than what you are consuming is to cut back on how many calories you are eating or begin to use more calories each day through exercise. However, you can also attack your weight loss problem from both sides, reduce the amount of calories that you are consuming and increase the amount of calories that you are using. However, how much exercise you are going to need is going to depend on how much weight you want to lose and how much you are eating.
Most people have found that if you exercise three times a week for 30 minutes you are going to be getting enough exercise to help you lose weight. Even if you are controlling your diet you still need to get in some exercise, and it is still recommended that you get in at least three 30 minute workouts a week. Not only is the amount of exercise you are getting important, but so is the type of exercise. Many people think that if they go for a walk or a bike ride that they are getting exercise. While this is true to a point simply walking or riding your bike is not going to be what most people consider quality exercise. When you are trying to lose weight you are going to want to get in some quality exercise. To help determine if the exercise you are getting is considered quality exercise you will need to ask yourself how you feel after you have completed the activity. If you feel fine at the end of the activity it is not quality exercise, with quality exercise you are going to feel hot, sweaty, and exhausted after you are done. For example, a leisurely bike ride around the block that leaves you feeling great is not going to do much to help burn extra calories. However, a jog around the neighborhood that leaves you hot and sweaty with your heart pumping is going to burn those extra calories. Many people who have never exercised before find the thought of exercising 30 minutes a day three times a week to be overwhelming. If you happen to fall into this category don't worry you can still get enough exercise to lose weight, the key to doing this is to ease into the exercising portion of your weight loss program. To ease into the exercise program what you can do is start by going for a run, swim or bike ride once a week. After a couple of weeks you can increase that amount to two times a week, and slowly increase the amount of exercise that you are doing until you exercising for 30 minutes a day three times a week.
