As an employer you should already be aware of the fact that unhealthy employees end up costing your company. As a responsible employer you should also be aware of how many different ways that unhealthy employees can cost your company. Not every employer knows how unhealthy employees can cost their company so they do not put a sick policy in place because they think it is better to have employees come in while they are sick than for them to miss work. However, if you take the time to learn about the different effects unhealthy employees have on your business and how much unhealthy employees end up costing your business you might think twice before you allow them to come into work.

Here are some different ways that unhealthy employees can cost your business.

Number one: Productivity
Having sick employees come into work can cost your business because they are not working as productively as they usually do. What this means is that the employees are not as productive when they are sick compared to when they are well. This can hurt your company because not as much is getting done during the day like it normally does. The reason that your employees aren't getting as much done as they normally do is that your employees just can't focus as well and get the normal amount of work done.

Number two: Exposure

Having sick employees at work can cost your business because they are exposing everybody else to the same illness. When people are coming into work sick they are going to end up getting other employees sick which is going to affect your business in the long run because that means those employees are going to have the same effect on your business when they are sick at a later date.

Number three: Financially
Having sick employees can cost your company financially because you are going to have to replace that employee with a temp or pay somebody overtime to do their work. However, if you do not allow the sick employees to miss work you are going to end up with more sick employees which will just end up costing your business more money. In the end it is probably the best decision to allow sick employees to miss work so that they do not get everyone else sick, not to mention that if they stay home and rest they will get better faster.

Number four: Missing sales
Sick employees can cost your business money through missing sales and lower productivity. This is going to cost your business money because it actually means that fewer goods are being made or fewer sales are being made because the employee just doesn't feel good. It is also a known fact that when you don't feel good you are not putting forth any kind of extra effort at work or at home. This means that your business can actually lose customers, usually potential customers because your employees are not putting forth the effort.

Number five: Lack of attention

Sick employees can cost your business money because they generally do not pay attention to safety policies when they are sick. The main reason that they don't think about these policies is that they simply just don't feel good enough to care about taking the appropriate safety measures. What this ends up meaning is that having sick employees at work can cause more accidents because among the sick employees safety is not a huge concern because they don't feel good or they simply aren't paying attention to what they are doing because they don't feel good.
