How To Promote Health In The Office

It is easy to go a full day at work without exercising; people do it all the time. But look at where this has brought the US. People suffer from the effects of obesity throughout the nation. Obesity contributes to diseases and heart conditions that can seriously harm or even kill a person.

Those working each day in front of a computer may think that their health options are limited. They are not! Open the eyes of the entire company to the way of wellness. It begins with a few simple choices and can lead to better, happier lives.
Play To Win
Embark on the road to company health with team building exercises. This can pull together departments and offices and become the platform for good health.
Host team games. Softball and volleyball are great team sports that many people can participate in. Bring in families for games and company picnics. Offer free food that is good for the body, like sandwiches and fruit. A little sportsmanship shows that corporate is more than just a faraway notion. The company cares for each employee. Even organize a corporate team to emphasize this.
Eating Well
Make sure that food provided by the company and managing employees is healthy. There are many sites where food is served in the office. Make these improvements today.
- Vending machines should either be removed or well stocked with healthier options. Look to see what your company stands for from its vending machines. Of course these are contracted out to other businesses, but vending machines can be a face of the company. So fill them with fruits and vegetables. Bagged apples and carrots are sold at the drive-through these days, so they can survive in a machine. Serve sandwiches on whole wheat bread and low fat milk.

- This goes for the cafeteria as well. Some companies have begun hiding desserts behind a wall to remove the temptation. Try this, or do not even sell desserts. Pastries add fat and sugar to a diet doing more harm than temporary good.

Bad food sucks the energy out of a person, making him or her less able to work as hard. Offer balanced meals with large portions of delectable vegetables. There is no need to contribute to bad diets if you can help it.

- Meeting tables should be adorned with healthy options. Serve baked crackers instead of chips and get rid of the usual pizza. Look into other food options while you have time so you can be ready for the next meeting.

- Company parties are another aspect to consider. They set the standard for what the company believes in. So add more fruit and vegetable platters to the next event. Consider taking out the alcohol and instead serving up virgin drinks. These can be just as fun and do not include the harmful substance, alcohol. People may thank you later.
Stay Active
- There are so many people who would love to exercise and stay fit, but do not have the means to do so. So provide gym memberships. You can talk to local gyms about group rates. Get each employee a membership or at least a discount.

- If this is not in the budget, give away work out equipment as part of the yearly bonus. Pedometers and health magazine subscriptions can nudge people in the right direction.

- Another option is to install a gym at work. This can bring up the profile of the company and offer great incentive for new hires and those thinking about jumping ship. Become competitive as a hiring firm with this sweet amenity.
These are some ways to keep employees working for you. They can find the happiness and peace of mind that comes from living a healthy. Start today to encourage body awareness and healthy living. People will be thanking you for years to come.
