Increasing your metabolism
Metabolism is important in weight loss and weight gain because of your body's use of calories. If you burn more calories than your body consumes you are going to lose weight. On the other hand if you less calories than your body consumes and you are going to gain weight. Or you can think about it in the terms of consumption, if you consume fewer calories than your body burns you lose weight, if you consume more than your body burns you gain weight. This is important because you use your body's metabolism to lose weight in two ways, through dieting because you are consuming less calories and through exercise because you are burning more calories than you are consuming.
With how important metabolism is to dieting it is no wonder that people want to do everything that they can to increase it. By increasing heir metabolism they are going to be able to burn calories faster, which should help to speed up how much weight you are losing. The one thing that you need to know about your metabolism is that your body burns a specific number of calories each day just for you being alive, this is called your Basal Metabolic Rate and it actually makes up about 60% of the calories that your body burns each day. The other 10% of the calories that are burned in a day are burned through Dietary Thermongenesis, which is the heat-producing activity of eating and internally processing your food. However, there are some activities that you can do to help boost your body's metabolism naturally. One thing that you can do to help your body burn calories faster is strength training, which is lifting weights and exercises along those lines. The reason that this helps to boost your metabolism is because when you lift weight your body's muscles tear and they have to be repaired by your body's natural healing process. The process used to repair those muscles burns more calories, so the bigger your muscle mass the more calories that you burn. Another thing that you can do to increase your body's metabolism is simply remaining active. The reason for this is that simply moving around requires you to burn calories, so the more you move around the more calories that you will lose. To help stay active you can take walks on your breaks at work. Rather than parking in the parking lot, park one or two blocks away and walk to work. While you are on the phone walk around the house cleaning up or simply walk while you are talking. The last thing that you can do is to make some dietary changes to boost your metabolism. It has been shown that caffeinated beverages and spicy foods can increase your metabolism. With the beverages your healthiest choice is green tea; it has far less sugar than other caffeinated beverages. You can also cut back on the amount of meals you are eating. Rather than eating 2 or 3 large meals eat smaller meals frequently throughout the day so that your metabolism is in a constant state of activity.
