Should you have concerns about employee health

As an employer you should have some concern over your employees' health because it can directly or indirectly affect your business. The main reason that you need to be concerned about your employees' health is because in order for your employees to be performing their best, meaning giving their work everything that they have, they are going to need to be in great health. However, when it comes to your employees' health there are a lot of things that you need to be concerned about, not just about their health in general.

Here are some other concerns that you should have about your employees' health.

Number one: Cost
As an employer you should be concerned about the cost of providing health insurance for your employees because these costs are actually rising each year. According to recent numbers the cost of health insurance is rising faster than inflation does each year. Therefore, employers who are providing health insurance for their employees should be concerned with the fact that every year the cost to provide this type of benefit to their employees is going to increase which means that employees might not be able to afford health insurance, let alone the employers might not be able to afford this type of benefit any longer.

Number two: Maintaining good health
As an employer you should be concerned about what you can do to help your employees maintain their good health. What this boils down to is what you as an employer can do to help promote good employee health. One thing that employers can do is to focus on employee incentives. Basically these are things that the employers can provide their employees to help encourage them to participate in wellness programs so that they can improve their health. The reason that this concern is so important is that if you have employees in good health it won't affect your health insurance costs nearly as much as sick employees will.

Number three: Live healthier lives
You also need to focus on what you can do to help your employees live healthier lives. What this amounts to is the fact that there are certain things that you can do as an employer to help encourage your employees to improve their health. Some of the things that you can do are to actually encourage your employees to led healthier lives by supporting programs such as stop smoking programs, weight loss programs and weight control programs. You can also encourage your employees to exercise at the office by providing a gym in the office or having exercise routines that your employees can do while sitting at their desks.

Number four: Sick policy
As an employer something else that you need to be concerned with in regards to your employees' health is what kind of a sick policy you have in effect. This is where you are going to want to establish some pretty good guidelines about when your employees can come to work and when they should actually stay home. The reason for this is that if your employees are actually sick and they still come into work they can risk passing their illness on to other employees. But not only are you going to want to establish those kinds of guidelines when it comes to coming into work but you are also going to want to establish some kind of sick day policy. This doesn't mean that you have to pay your employees for being sick, but it has been shown that majority of people who have paid sick days don't abuse the program and only take the time off when they really need it, which all adds up to a healthier office.
