Should you provide your employees with health insurance

If you are an employer you are probably already aware of the fact that there are plenty of people who do not have insurance in the United States. In the United States we are in what some would call a health insurance crisis because not enough people are actually insured, and even people who are insured are not insured enough, which is something that is called underinsured. The truth of the matter is that this is a serious problem but even though there are so many uninsured people how do you know if you are a part of the problem or a part of the solution. One way to tell if you are a part of the problem or the solution is to look at the type of business you are running and to see if you offer your employees affordable health insurance. But another way to tell if you are being part of the problem or the solution is what you intend to do in the future for your employees in regards to health care.

Many employers do not want to provide their employees with health insurance because it is such an expensive benefit. However, what most of these employers are not realizing is that it is costing their company money to not offer health insurance. The reason for this is that by not offering health insurance your employees are probably not going to the doctor when they are sick or even for preventative measures, which means they are probably getting sick more often and they are at a higher risk of getting seriously ill because they are not taking care of themselves or their children. When you have employees that are in this situation many times they come into work when they are sick, which is going to cost you money because they are not as productive when they are sick as when they are healthy. However, having sick employees come into work means that the germs are being spread around the office. This is going to cost you even more money because as your other employees get sick they are going to come into work and be less productive or they are going to call in sick, which puts you behind schedule.

However, if you do provide your employees with health insurance you are going to have healthier employees because they will be more likely to go to the doctor to receive treatment for illnesses and get preventative care to help ward off certain illnesses. Having healthier employees in the office means that more work is going to get done and less people will be calling in sick. Another benefit to providing your employees with health insurance is that their families will also be healthier because they will have the same access to doctor's that the employee does. Having a healthier family reduces the amount of time that employees will have to take off to tend to sick kids.

In looking at the benefits of providing health insurance to your employees and their families it is easy to see that the pros definitely outweigh the cons. The main reason for that is when you provide health insurance for your employees they and their families are healthier, which means more productive employees at work to help make your business more money. Not to mention that offering health insurance at an affordable price helps to reduce turnover at your business.

Another problem that you will see with employers besides not providing health insurance is providing health insurance that their employees cannot afford. With how many different things are involved with health insurance it can be a hard decision to make about whether or not you should provide your employees with health insurance. However, only you as a business owner can decide if offering health insurance to your employees is going to work for you.
