Using a treadmill desk to lose weight

Obesity is on the rise in America, which causes the health care costs to rise and it also causes employers to lose money. One place that may be causing people to gain weight is their workplace. The biggest problem may be the chairs they are sitting on and the fact that they are not getting any exercise during the day. Sitting all day long is bad for your health. It can lead to obesity and blood clots in the legs.

Some employers have starting fighting back against obesity by offering treadmill desks to their employees. While it may be expensive, it will certainly be worth the investment. When a person is standing or in an active position, their fat molecules are passing through the blood vessels and are being burned off quickly. If a person sits all day, their bodies start to store extra fat and their metabolism slows. This causes people to gain weight around their midsections and other areas on the body.

A treadmill desk provides employees with the opportunity to exercise while they are at work. The Surgeon General recommends that every person should try and walk at least 10,000 steps a day to maintain a healthy lifestyle. At first the treadmill desk may seem awkward but after the first few days, your body will start to get used to it and you will find that it is an enjoyable way to work. Many people even feel that their workdays go by faster when they have a treadmill desk.

Treadmill desks give people the ability to increase their energy while they are at work. It also helps them become more productive while they complete their work and improve their health. A treadmill desk works by creating a stand up desk and placing a treadmill under the desk. Most people will purchase a treadmill desk that has already been created. The desk will adjust to your height and it can be adjusted to your eyes as you read and type. The desk should have arm rests to keep your elbows at a 90 degree angle while you are tying.

In order for a treadmill desk to be effective, everything you need must be placed onto the desk. This way you aren't constantly getting on and off to get supplies you need to perform your job. Most people will keep the speed of the treadmill around .8 - .1.2 miles per hour, this way they aren't out of breath while they are working and they are able to focus on work, not on walking.

Keeping your heart rate up will help you burn off extra calories and build muscle. The benefits of exercising during the day can even help you burn calories during the night. Of course, treadmill desks will only be effective if you eat healthy. It won't do much for your health if you burn 500 calories on the treadmill and drink 3 sodas or consume some potato chips. This is why you need to make the effort to improve not only your exercise regime, but you need to improve your eating habits as well.

Treadmill desks do work, within the first 2 weeks of using them, people normally see weight loss and they also see their muscles start to tighten up. Treadmills provide a total body workout and they are a wonderful way to cut the weight from your waistline and legs. If you cannot afford to purchase a treadmill desk for each employee, purchase one or two and encourage your staff members to take turns using it every day or every other day. This will at least help your staff members get in some physical exercise daily or at least 2-3 times a week.
