What is happening with employee sickness?

ill19115072.jpg Companies know that having healthier employees will lead to a healthier bottom line. Since there are so many employees that are calling in sick due to illness, stress, and other concerns, employers are noticing a dramatic drop in their productivity. These employees can also cause other issues for the company such as problems with employee morale and lack of interest in their jobs. Making the workplace environment healthy should be one of your biggest priorities. With the right tools and the right plan, you can take a company with high rates of absenteeism and turn it into a healthy one with higher levels of productivity. Here are some things you need to learn about employee sickness so you can understand how to combat it.

Right now employees are currently taking about 8.5 days of sick leave on average per year. This doesn't include time off for vacations and holidays. Unlike scheduled time off, sick leave puts a company in a bad position. They need to seek out help to come in and take care of the job responsibilities of the person that called in sick or they need to shuffle these responsibilities onto other employees, causing them to become disgruntled.

With so many people taking sick leave, it adds up to about 3.6 million work days. These are just sick days for the illnesses that are short-term like migraines, common cold symptoms, and fatigue. When employees have long-term disabilities it will only increase this number and cause the company to struggle just to make ends meet.

Customer's interactions with the company are done by the employees. You need to have employees that are approachable and happy with their jobs. When they are healthy and they feel that the company is trying to improve their health and their overall working environment, it will be much easier for them to come into work and feel good about their job.

Health is always a big concern for companies and you need to seek out different ways to promote a healthier workplace for your staff. Get rid of those vending machines that are full of sugary and salty foods. Offer water coolers for your employees so they can fuel up on one of the best remedies out there, water. Water helps to cure headaches and it flushes the toxins out of your body and it will make you feel more energetic and more alert. This provides you with higher levels of productivity and it will lead to a stronger and healthier company.

Introducing on-site exercise centers is another great way to cut down on employee absences as the employees have a chance to get in shape ahead of time. They will be able to get some exercise time in and this allows them to strengthen their bodies and will help them to fight off colds as they are already in good health. The on-site centers may not be the most impressive but it's better than nothing. You do need to check with your insurance company to find out if there will be an increase in your liability insurance costs by adding some exercise equipment for your employees to use.

Can you provide your employees with gym memberships and other things that will encourage them to exercise? You need to look for other ways to help them get fit and strong and to find a way to avoid getting sick. Proper cleaning of the office can also help to cut down on germs and will be able to reduce the amount of germs that are causing the common cold and other illnesses to spread around and leading to a number of health issues.
