As an employer you should be aware of the fact that sick employees end up costing your business money each month. What you might not realize is that if you actually encourage employee health you will be well on your way to reducing the number of sick employees that you has each year, which can help to save your business money. With how much money that you can save each year with healthy employees is very important for you to encourage employee health. Not to mention that encouraging employee health can provide you with a stable work force, a healthy staff, and more money for your company because of the increased productivity from your healthy employees. However, the problem is not why you should encourage employee health, but rather what you can do to encourage employee health.

Here are some things that you can do to encourage employee health.

Number one:
One way to help encourage your employees to get healthy is to post a food guide pyramid in the break room. The best place to post this guide is on the refrigerator.Posting this guide is a way that you can remind your employees about eating healthy, which can help to improve their healthy. Not to mention that having this poster on the refrigerator might also discourage your employees from keeping junk food in the fridge.

Number two:
If you currently do not have a fridge in the break room you should provide your employees with a small to medium sized fridge so that they can bring food from home to eat at work. Having food from home will reduce the need for employees to go out for lunch, which leads to healthier eating habits.

Number three:
Hang up posters around the workplace that are designed to promote a healthier lifestyle. The posters can be on topics about quitting smoking, eating healthier, getting physically fit, or any other lifestyle topic. In addition to these posters you will want to provide reading materials for your employees on what they can do to help themselves live a healthier life in the break room and other areas that employees gather to sit and relax.

Number four:
If you provide vending machines for your employees you can take out all of the junk food and replace it with healthier snacks. Providing the healthier snacks will help encourage people to eat right. It will also provide your employees with the right kind of energy, which will help them, feel good about them and get through the day without feeling tired or sluggish.

Number five:
Be sure to educate your employees about how important good health is. When educating your employees you will need to provide them with information on why they should choose a healthier lifestyle, which is going to mean you need to provide them with the information about what happens if they choose to lead an unhealthy lifestyle. This will allow them to compare the two lifestyles and make the choice that they feel is best. You can also offer your employees some kind of an incentive for choosing to lead a healthy lifestyle rather than an unhealthy lifestyle.

Number six:
The last thing that you can do to help encourage your employees to lead a healthy lifestyle is to promote exercise at work. One way to promote exercise at work is to provide marked walking paths that include the distance covered for employees to use on their breaks. You can also sign the company up for walk a thons so that employees are encouraged to participate. Installing a gym or offering your employees a partial reimbursement for a local gym membership can also be used to promote exercise at work.
