With the Internet becoming something available not only in most homes, but also in many people's pockets via tablets, smart phones, etc. thousands of people are discovering the world of trading online in the forex market. The Forex market, while exciting and challenging, can be complicated and elusive to those that are new to this form of investing.

If you are considering Forex trading, consider the following:
1. Learn how the forex market works. Take some time to do the research, read a book like Forex for Dummies, or get in contact with someone who knows the market, take a course, etc. You do not want to invest in a market you do not understand the mechanics of. If you do not know how currencies are traded in the forex market, what currency pairs are, and how they are traded, what a price quote means, or how profit and loss is calculated, then stop and learn. Then progress forward.

2. Practice forex trading with an online forex brokerage before you put money at risk. Investing is not impossible to learn, but it is best to learn in a practice account, or simulated situation, rather than jumping in head first. Practicing first will help you learn how to establish a position in the market, manage a trade, close out your position, and evaluate the trade.

3. Consider your investment objectives. Before you can begin trading, you need to know your approach and trading style. Look at the various approaches professionals use, and how it influences their trading decisions, and develop a trading plan you can stick with, BEFORE you start trading.

4. Consider your level of experience. Whenever making an investment choice it is wise to evaluate your experience level, and how that will translate into your trading strategy. If you get to excited, or are a real novice, you might make mistakes. Trade with someone who is a professional, and practice before you start making real trades.

5. Consider your risk tolerance. Your risk tolerance level will impact what trading plan you use, and how you approach the market. It is important to have a clear idea of your risk tolerance so that you can take that into consideration when developing a game plan for trading in the forex market.

6. Never invest money you can't afford to lose. This is the most important thing you can do when preparing to trade in the forex market. Repeat this mantra over and over until it sticks. If you invest money you can't afford to lose, you will be making decision that are not smart, and that could get you into financial trouble. It is good to determine what threshold of money you are willing to risk. For example, you may say, no more than 2%.

Once you have done these things, you will be able to approach the forex market and actively trade in it, armed with knowledge.
