How to clarify your business objectives

Business objectives play an important role in every company. They are the driving force behind your short and long term goals. With unclear objectives a company can find themselves stuck in a rut or even worse, out of business. Here are some helpful suggestions on how to make objectives and how to clarify your business objectives

Why do you need Business objectives?
Well, you wouldn't plan a vacation without a final destination in mind would you? Business objectives drive your business the same way a destination drives you trip. Your business objectives shape your business and help provide a goal to work towards. Business objectives also give you a timeline for which things need to be done. Once you understand why business objectives are so important the next step is defining clear business objectives so that you can build your business in the right direction.

Are Zero-coupon securities right for your business?

A zero-coupon security, also referred to as a stripped bond is a regular coupon paying bond without the coupon. The word zero or stripped is done by a brokerage or bank; stripping the bonds then registers and trades these zeros as individual securities. To think about a zero coupon conceptually, they are just like Treasury Bills. An investor will pay a specified amount up front in exchange for a promise to receive another specified amount when the coupon matures.

Types of Zero coupon securities
There are several different kinds of zero coupons; almost as many as there are bonds. They also come in many different variations as well. Here are some different types of zero coupons:

Strips. Strips are zeros that are backed up by government securities and usually offered by brokerage houses. Each of the different proprietary brands of strips works in a similar way. The brokerage buys a government or a municipal security and holds them in escrow. The principal is then stripped form the interest and markets zero certificates.

What is a spot (cash) market?

A spot or cash market is a market in which commodities or currencies are sold for cash and immediately delivered. Trades that take place in futures (contract) markets expiring in the current month are also called spot market trades. Spot markets can operate wherever an infrastructure exists for conducting the transaction. The internet does a lot of security spot market trades.

The spot market is sometimes called a "physical market" because the prices are settled in cash on the spot, as opposed to forward prices. A good example is crude oil. The crude oil is sold at spot prices, but the actual delivery occurs in one month or less.

Spot market prices are made known to the public almost as soon as deals are transacted. Spot markets can be privately operated or controlled by government or other organizations. A prime example is producers of surplus energy. They are able to locate buyers for energy, negotiate prices and deliver actual energy to the customer a few minutes later. Natural gas is a good example of an energy spot market. Grain, gold, and RAM are other good examples of spot market.
A derivatives market is the financial market for derivatives. What does that mean exactly? First you have to understand derivatives. A derivative exists to reduce risk. The value of a derivative changes in response to changes in underlying variables such as: stocks, bonds, interest rates, commodities, and exchange rates.

A derivatives market is your bet on the value of the stock, bond, or currency to increase or decrease by a certain amount over a fixed period of time. A derivatives market can be divided into two parts: future markets and over-the-counter markets.

Financial risk management strategy for businesses looking to invest

If your company does not have a financial risk management strategy, you need to create one quickly. Risk management is a structured approach to managing uncertainty through risk assessment and developing strategies to manage it. If you are a business looking to invest, a financial risk management strategy will help you see how risk is transferred from one party to another. You will also learn how to avoid certain risks, reduce the negative effect of the risk, and accept the consequences of some certain risks.

Ask yourself some important questions when you are creating your financial risk management strategy. How will a strike effect your company? What will happen if one of your key suppliers or distributors goes on strike? If you have a financial risk management plan ready for some questions like that, you don't need to worry. By having a plan you are able to minimize a large ripple effect.

Here are steps you can follow to set up your financial risk management strategy:
