Stable income investment options

When you are investing in the stock market you might be looking for some extra money, or you might be looking for it to become a stable income. If you are looking for an income from your investments, there are a few places that would be the best for placing your money.

Here are a few of the investments that can offer a stable income. Remember that they are still investments, so there is some risk involved. The risk level of each will vary, make sure that you know what risks you are willing to take.

  • Certificates of deposit, also known as CD's, are money that you give to the bank for a return. You can set up the principle in the account to be available at a future date. Until this date, you are given the interest on a regular basis. You can choose for it to be monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. These are safe investments, most banks have a guarantee on their return.
  • Corporate bonds are when you invest your money by giving a loan to a corporation. With you, they set up a future date when the money will be returned, anytime within about 40 years. They pay you interest on a regular basis until that predetermined date when they give you back your initial investment.
  • Zero coupon bonds are offered through the government. They are bonds that are sold at discounts and hold guarantees by the US Treasury. They give fewer payouts than other accounts, so they are for those that do not need monthly income.
  • Government sponsored enterprises are a safe investment option. They work a lot like the others, where interest is paid out regularly and the initial investment is returned at a future date. This gives you a steady income for a predetermined number of years.
  • US Treasury securities are also another government offered investment. They are backed by the government, making your investment a secure one. They give payouts every six months and they are tax free.
  • Mortgage backed securities have a lot involved in them, but they are just the ticket for some investors. They should be looked into by those that are more serious investors, those that have a lot of knowledge and background in the market.
  • Municipal bonds are offered by local government agencies. They are very much like the other government bonds, although they have a slightly higher market risk. They also have a payout every six months and are often tax free.

With any of these options don't forget to look into the taxes, risks, and penalties involved. Each will vary depending on which state you live in and how much money you are investing. Your decision may also vary by the amount you are ready to invest, some have minimums and maximums that might be different than you are looking for.

Knowing your options gives you the chance to make the best decision for your finances. Make sure that you do enough research to be fully informed before you start investing to replace your income. The worst thing you can do is to make an investment and quit your job, only to find out that the investment isn't what you thought it was.

Stable income investments give investors a chance to make a regular income from their investments. They offer a financial security to those that know what they are doing. Investing can bring income for investors that do their homework and know where their money is going.
