The day has finally come and you are getting ready to open the doors to your new business. If you have invested a great deal of time, money, sweat, and tears into your goal to become your own boss you do not want to blow it when you open the doors to your business. Small business owners often work harder than others because they have so many job roles that they need to do. You have to prepare yourself for the role and to know that you have the motivation, drive, and stamina in order to run your own business. How will people be able to find your business? If you want to get people to know about your business you need to be able to learn how to effectively advertise it. Advertising is one of the most important things you will do when you open the doors to your business and expect to see a line of customers outside of it. Here are some tips that can help you in advertising a new business and really getting attention from your customers.

Newspapers
Most small businesses are going to thrive on the local's! You need to get to know the newspapers in town and to try and form relationships with them so you can get some discounts on advertising in their paper. You have to use the local paper and write up some killer press releases so that they will run a story about your company and hopefully help you in getting some great exposure for the company.

Doorhangers
Nothing helps you get out and connect with your customers like walking the streets and hanging a note on their door. You have to get out there and interact with people. Show them that you are friendly and let them know about your company. Write up some nice marketing promotions that you can hang on their door to let them hear about your company. You can also mail some things out but getting a list from the city can be hard at times and if you aren't lucky enough to get it in Excel format, it's likely you will spend a ton of time on data entry as you need to input the names into your system.

Flyers
One way to get your name out there is to talk to a local supermarket and to find out if you can post flyers on their local bulletin board. You can usually post them for free at a lot of stores and at post offices and libraries. Speak to your city offices and find out how you can get some exposure for the company. Your city offices may have a newsletter that they send out and they could easily place a small tidbit in about your company or they may be generous and could let you add in your flyer. Make the city officials really work for you since the success of your company will help to increase revenues for the city and this pays their salary!

Website
Always create a good website before you go out and interact with people. Once you talk to people, some of them may head home and will try to search for your website. You need to have a presence online even if it isn't a big one yet. People need to see a website that is organized and really comes with information that they are looking for. Include links to informative articles that you have written as well as flyers that you have designed and other things. The more information people can see on your site, the easier it will be for them to take you seriously.
