- Increase your customer service-One of the major marketing tool, that you may be overlooking is using good customer service. Studies have shown that many consumers report that they return to a store or site to purchase again, simply because of the customer service they received. Keep in mind that this occurs despite the fact that the price may be higher then a competitor. Consumers are looking, for the type of customer service that shows that the company appreciates their business. You need to make sure that every employee knows that customer service is their first priority. This should be the priority of every employee, no matter what their job description is. If you think that your employees are lacking in customer service skills, then instituting a training policy, can pay off in better sales and more return customers. The bottom line is that nothing can boost a marketing effort more then great customer service.
- Ignore your competition-While you need to be aware of how your competition is marketing, this does not mean that you need to match them, on every marketing effort. Many business owners make the mistake of thinking that they must respond to every marketing effort, their competition makes. This is an expensive marketing mistake. You need to make sure that your marketing efforts are directed in the most efficient way toward the people you want to attract-your target market.
- Constantly be doing market research-Another common mistake that many business owners make, is that they initially do market research and then never do it again. You need to keep in mind that your customers buying habits, preferences, lifestyles and a host of other factors are constantly changing. Successful businesses recognize this and keep in touch with what their customers want. If you don't know what your customers are looking for or what they really want, it will be unlikely that you can successfully respond to them. You should also use your market research to determine what customers do and do not like about business, products and services. This will help you to make changes that will keep you in the forefront of your market, and not playing catch up. One of the new ways to keep in touch with your customers is by using social media. Checking out social media sites, is easy and free, and will give you valuable insight into what your customers are really wanting.
