What is the difference among marketing, pr, advertising, publicity, and promotions? Wow, that is a mouth full. However, all of these factors weigh heavily when it comes to the success of a business, large or small.

Marketing

PR or public relations is the action of getting out there and building positive relationships with the public. This is used to keep the company or business maintaining the positive perspective that is required for a business to thrive and grow in the ever-competitive market place.

Advertising

The way that advertising works is that companies or businesses will pay for their products to receive recognition by the public. This would include the combination of the following publicity, public relations, personal selling, and sales promotions. This would also be like the use of commercial on the radio, television, and Internet. This also includes the use of mailings, free trials, and much more.

Publicity

The use of publicity through free advertising outlets like press releases allows for businesses to become known with no cost. This is non-paid, non-personal communication to promote products and services.

With publicity a company can grow using less income than that of standard marketing and advertising. The opposite effect can happen with the wrong kind of publicity. Think back on a company that had negative publicity that the consumers really care about. That business may be closed down now.

Promotions

Promotions are used to bring the product information to the consumers. This can be in the form of samples, free trials, buy one get one free, or other forms of lure for the consumer to try the product.

Promotions are great ways to get information out, because if a customer has a product in their hand, they are more likely to use that product.

With this information you now know what these words mean to marketing and business. Keep in mind that for a full marketing campaign to be successful, you need each of these factors.

There is not a huge difference in that of marketing, pr, advertising, publicity and promotions. However they are the different areas of a team that makes the product to get noticed by the consumers. Recognition can make or break any company or business.

Using these different forms of contact, with some great customers service can make a company become the multimillion dollar businesses that have others drooling.
