We've all heard the jokes that are out there having to do with lawyers. Lawyer jokes are as old as the hills. Lawyer jokes represent lawyers as mean and nasty, as greedy, as unwanted. Lawyer jokes represent lawyers as an evil in society, as a barnacle on the ship of society. Lawyer jokes say that lawyers are money-hungry rats and sharks. Lawyer jokes go after lawyers all day long, and never let lawyers off the hook. Is there truth to these jokes? Are lawyers bad? Will lawyers steal your last dime and leave you to die slowly in the streets?
The answer, of course, is that there are bad people in every business, the law included. There are good lawyers and bad lawyers. There are greedy lawyers and generous lawyers. There are honest lawyers and dishonest lawyers. The list goes on and on.

Lawyers, after all, are experts in the law, and the law is a vast and complicated thing. The law is a sort of maze that normal people have a hard time getting through on their own. Lawyers act as guides in the maze. Lawyers go to special schools for years and years so that they can properly guide people through the maze of the law.
One kind of lawyer out there is called an appeal lawyer or an appeal attorney. Attorney and lawyer mean the same thing. An appeal attorney or lawyer is someone who helps you if you want to appeal a decision made by a judge or jury.
To ask to have a decision appealed is to ask to have it thought over again. Let's say that a judge decides that you owe your mother-in-law ten thousand dollars. You don't want to pay your mother-in-law ten thousand dollars. You don't think you owe your mother-in-law ten thousand dollars. But a judge has decided differently. You took your case to the judge and lost it. You've got to pay your mother-in-law ten thousand dollars. But wait! You can appeal the judge's decision first. You can take your case to a different court, a higher court, and try to get a new judge to decide differently. This is called appealing your case. To appeal your case, you'd need an appeal attorney or lawyer.
It's very difficult to get a case overturned this way. Appeal lawyers and attorneys have to be very good at what they do in order to get a case overturned. An appeal lawyer or attorney has to be intelligent, quick-witted, and a good arguer. An appeal lawyer or attorney has to know your case inside and out, and be able to think quickly on their feet. When looking for a good appeal lawyer or attorney, of course, you'd want to find one with a high success rate. To find an appeal lawyer or attorney with a high success rate would entail a lot of research.
The Internet is a good place to research lawyers and attorneys. The internet will list hundreds and hundreds of appeal lawyers and attorneys. You want the best appeal lawyer or attorney possible when it comes to your case. You'll want to talk with other lawyers about the best possible selection. You may want to contact your State Bar Association when looking for the perfect appeal lawyer or attorney. Your State Bar Association will have information on all of the appeal lawyers or attorneys working in your state.
Again, appealing a case is a very complicated, very difficult thing to do. You'll want the best appeal lawyer or attorney possible to take care of the matter. Let's say you sue a company for taking advantage of you, and you lose. Don't despair, the fight's not over yet. As with the example above, you could appeal the judge's decision in the case of you versus the company. You'd just have to find a good, successful appeal lawyer or attorney to work with first.
