Every business will hit different challenges, some of them can cause us to close our doors forever and others can cause us to strengthen our business and come out ahead. Growing your small business is one challenge that is difficult to overcome, but if it's done right, it will be worth it.

A common error small business owners make with their companies is that they want them to grow, but they refuse to let go some of their responsibilities. Every small business owner usually starts out as an employee for another company until they finally reach the decision to start their own business.

This is a big risk and they have to work hard to get there. Once your business is successful and it starts to grow out of your control, you may find it hard to hire another person to come in and split some of your job responsibilities. This is one of the most important parts of growing your small business, you need to learn how to let go and allow others to take over some of the control. To allow your business to grow, you need to hire other people to take over some things. Hire an accountant to manage the books, a manger to control the day-to-day operations, supervisors to maintain control of your employees, etc.

Look at your business as a large entity versus a small business. Instead of being the only manager, hire other people and develop a management team. This way each manager will bring a different piece to the puzzle and you still have the ability to oversee them, you just need to trust them and their abilities to make the decisions you used to make.

Take a look at your original business goals and your business plan. Ask yourself why you wanted to start your own business in the first place. Most people will say it is because they wanted flexibility and they wanted to be their own boss. While this is a great reason, it can often force you to work harder and longer hours than you did at a traditional job. Scale back from where you are and let some employees take on some of your burden so you can truly enjoy the freedom of working for yourself.

One way to grow your business is to build relationships with customers and other companies. It's important to get out there and let people know what type of company you are running. Show them that you are a good company to work for and a good company to support by having solid customer service skills and excellent products or services. Bring in employees that like to deal with customers and thrive in social situations.

Send them out to conferences to network your business. These individuals will help to build strong relationships with other companies which can help your business reduce its marketing budget by partnering with other companies or it can increase your customer exposure through different promotions. Having a good customer service team will not go unnoticed. Your customers will talk about it and spread the word to their friends.

Be willing to invest money in your business. Whenever it comes time to grow your business, you need to have some money to upgrade equipment, lease new locations, hire more employees, etc. It is important to understand the risks you will be taking on, but the end result is better than any risk you can take. Growing your small business from one location to two is just amazing and it will get even better as it suddenly catches on and before you know it, you have a large enterprise!
