How to market to a specific niche when you run a small business

Many small business owners are afraid of the idea of niche marketing, they are afraid to turn away customers. But, know that niche marketing doesn't turn away customers, it just help your business dollar go further by refining your market area. Why advertise to those who don't care anyway?

If you are going to get into niche marketing, now is not the time to jump in with both feet.Instead, take time to study first.Learn about niche markets and figure out the right markets for you.The time spent here will put you that much further ahead.

Once you have done your homework and think you have a great niche, test it out.See if you were right, if you were you will see a big difference. If there wasn't a very big difference then maybe you should try another market.

A good sign that you are in the right niche market, believe it or not is competitors. If your competition has already found it then there is potential there. Now the trick is being better than the competition. If you find a market that has no competition there is a chance that they already failed in that market, which should tell you to stay away.

You are looking for people with specific unique needs.Asking yourself questions will help you make sure that you are going the right way.Make a list of who needs your product, where those people are, why they would want your offers, what you can do to appeal to them, when are they going to see your ads and when will they act on them, then the last step is how are you going to be helping them and how are you going to advertise to them.

For unique people you need to have unique advertising. This means knowing your target audience well enough to speak their language. This can be literal as well, if your niche is of a different background speak in their native tongue. If you aren't thinking literally, then talk to them on their level.Skateboard ads shouldn't have perfect grammar, baby talk is a perfect catch for new mothers who are very used to hearing that all day.

A great way to test a niche, or break into a new area, is sponsorship. If you know a large number of your target audience will be together in one place, display your name.If you have a new type of cowboy hat, then be a sponsor at a rodeo. If you have a new health food line, sponsor a fitness walk. This is a great place to start, not only are you establishing a niche, but you are putting a good mark by your name.

Another great way to discover your niche market is looking at your current client base. You can compare your current customers and see what they have in common. They may have already started your niche and you haven't noticed.Comparing can help you see if you have more than one niche market and also let you see what you can be doing better with your marketing dollars.

Niche marketing, as with all marketing, has its pros and cons. For small business it is pretty common that there are more pros than cons.If you have done a good amount of research you will know if niche marketing is where your business marketing should be.You know where your marketing goals are headed, will niche marketing get you there?
