Product placement, and product development for small business

When you start a small business you begin to wonder if you will ever be able to compete with the big guys. With the difference in money that roles through larger and smaller businesses it can make you wonder how you are going to get your small business any profits.

How you work your product development, and then how to use product placement can make a difference in how well your small business does in competition with the big boys. There are a few ideas that can help with development and placement on a small budget.

Development

You may choose to create your own product or to carry products from another company.Either way you can make the most out of development. It all starts with finding what you are passionate about.Your small business should be based on something that you are very enthusiastic about and dedicated to.

If you are making your own products then you will want to always be moving forward by creating new products over time.If you started your business on a new product then it is time to start looking at changes that can be made.Maybe you could create a new product line, start an extension of the line you already created, make some revisions to the product you started with, or just plain come up with a new product.

These are things that will take time, but they can mean the difference for your business. If you only ever carry the same product that you started with then your customers are going to get bored and move on.Keep moving and changing with the trends.

Placement

So you just aren't sure that you can call up the big production companies and tell them that your product would be perfect in their next film. You aren't sure how you pay for that or how well it would work for a business of your size.

There are a few places that you can look locally that will help.Start by talking with local production companies and seeing if they are interested. They may be interested in an exchange for your product and then your product would get exposure.

Make sure you find your local independent film directors and local cable channels. They are on lower budgets just like you and you may just find that your product is what they need. This can help you get repeated exposure without the high costs of running a commercial several times.

If you aren't sure that you would go about that right then maybe you should look into a placement agency. They have more "ins" with the production companies and can usually get a little farther.Be cautious about this though.Check them out and make sure that they are getting other business's results and that they aren't working with a lot of your competitors. They may not be in your best interest if they are working with competitors as well.

Combining them

If you are working on developing a new product and you are trying to see how the market is going to react, try placement. The exposure of the product in a movie will show you the reaction of the public. They may all come clamoring to get one or they may start talking about what was wrong with it.

Placement can really help you know if your development budget is being well spent or just simply wasted.Using placement is a cost effective way of getting this information, so both of your budgets will like it.Take your small business as far as you can!
