Five tips for a successful small business launch. Many small businesses do not make it past the first year. This is due to a couple different reasons. However the most obvious is the small business launch. A successful small business launch will lay a foundation for a small business to get over the five-year target, and then into a long-term success.

Tip #1

Give yourself and your product or service enough time to succeed. In order to do this, there are a few things you need to have set up.

a. Enough personal money to live for six months to a year
b. A good financial start up plan.
c. Know what you are going to need to succeed. This is in financial figures primarily. Will this only be an additional income, or will this be your primary income.

With a decent plan for both income you will know what is necessary for you to be able tot take the time that is needed to let your business become more known. There is so much competition out there that it is no wonder that poorly or even averagely planned small businesses just does not make it. Therefore it is wise to plan the needed time for trial and error, and recognition in the field your business will be competing in.

Tip #2

Make sure that there is a need for your product or service. If the consumer needs the product or service you are offering, this will lead way for a smooth small business launch. The main thing to remember is that there will be a greater profit from a consistent need.

Tip #3

Marketing! Without a good marketing plan, it is highly unlikely that your small business will succeed. Again with the idea that the markets are so competitive, decent marketing is a must. This is the only way you will be able to get your name, and information out to the public.

Here are some different options you can use for marketing your small business. These will range from very low cost, to more expensive.

1. The internet, web pages, emails, chat rooms, online discussion groups and blogs
2. Telemarketing, and door knocking
3. Flyers, brochures, posters, letters, newsletters and post cards
4. News paper ads
5. Magazine articles and ads
6. Radio advertisement
7. Television advertisement

Marketing needs to be one of the main priorities that your small business has. In the beginning money will be tight, so even if you start with simply some flyers, the internet, and some telemarketing/door knocking you will have a higher success rate, than if you wait for the customers to come to you.

Even great products and services need advertising. This is because, word of mouth can do so much, but without a little advertising, the growth may not be fast enough to maintain the business finances.

Tip #4

Have a prepared business plan. This will help to not only guide your opening of the business, but also the long term steps that your business will take. The business plan needs to have these factors listed.

a. Mission statement
b. Company structure
c. Who will your customers be
d. What is your planned income for 1 year, 3 years, 5 years and 10 years
e. What metrics will you be using to determine that you will be successful
f. Marketing plan
g. How much money you will need
h. What you will need to succeed

Tip #5

Set a plan that a couple times per week, you will go out and find business for your new company. This is huge for a new business to launch off correctly. Get out there and create word of mouth. Give samples, explain what you do, get your product noticed. This is going to be one of the most important steps you can take, because it is not just the product that sells itself. It is the people selling the product.

These tips will help your small business launch reach higher than you could have anticipated. Take the time for the growth. Give your company the chance it needs, and as long as your product or service is what people need they will buy.
