What kind of business management training is available?

Business management refers to the management of your company. It does not cover just one department it covers the entire management structure from the top down. So when we are talking about the types of training available for business management we are talking about a lot of areas. Business management training is offered for all aspects of business management.

Financial management:
Just like the term states this is the management of your company's financial division. This department handles all aspects of the company's finance. The CFO or Chief Financial Officer is the main manger in this division. If your company does not have a Chief Financial Officer they might have a Controller, whose is in charge of this end of the company. But this department also covers accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll (Some places put payroll in Human Resources), extending credit to customers, and everything else that has to do with the control of a company's assets and liabilities.

Marketing management:
The marketing department is the department that handles all of the company's advertising. Whether that advertising is used to promote products or if it is used to make customers aware of charity functions it is covered under this department. The marketing department is in charge of designing websites, commercials, store ads, fliers and sometimes invitations.

Human Resource management:
This department is in charge of keeping track of all the paperwork on each employee. They are the ones who decide on health benefits and other benefits that may be offered to employees. They are also the ones who coordinate the benefits and contact the companies who they use to add employees to the benefit plan or to remove an employee. They process all of the paper work for new hires, complete the paperwork for all terminated employees, and in some cases are in charge of payroll. While they might keep track of the time cards, they usually do not process or sign the checks, this is left up to the financial department.

Production management:
This department is in charge of the production for the company. Not all companies have a production department; you will only find these in companies that make their profits from manufacturing. These managers are in charge of overseeing the assembly of the items that the company is selling. Quality control, quantities produced and inventory all fall under this category.

Service management:
Like product management you will not find this department in every company. The companies that use service management are companies that provide a service rather than selling goods. Examples of some service based companies are: construction companies, telephone companies, and internet service providers. Sometimes service based companies will provide goods along with the service, for example heating and air conditioning companies do service work, where they repair your system if it is broken, but they also install new systems. So these kinds of companies have both service and product management.

Information Technology management:
In most companies this is simply known as your IT department. These people provide the maintenance that is required on your company's computer systems, but the can also add hardware and software that is needed, as well as write code and help your marketing department design your website. Rather than employing an IT department some companies will outsource this work to other companies because it is more cost effective.

Business management training offers training in all of these common departments plus in a few other departments. You can attend seminars, take online classes, attend college courses, or buy books to increase your knowledge in business management. What you need to do is find courses or books being offered in your specialty and then attend the training.
