Digital photography is becoming more and more popular in the world today, and the process of developing film is becoming a less-common practice! There are many things that you need to know about digital photography, especially if you have never had experience with a digital camera until now! Here is a how-to for digital photography, which includes a couple of basic tips, terms, and information on digital cameras:

  1. Some digital camera features: One of the things that you will want to pay attention to when you use a digital camera is the memory card.A memory card is the place in the camera where all of your images are stored, until you transfer them over to your computer. If you have a compatible printer, you can also send your pictures directly to the printer! In order to get the most for your money, you will want to make sure that you have a memory card with a lot of storage and memory space. This way, you will be able to not only save a lot of photographs on your computer, but you will also be able to take a lot of photos at a higher resolution, which means that the photo quality will be better. Another great feature of digital cameras is a screen called the LCD (or, Liquid Crystal Display). This screen allows you to see the images which you have just taken on a small screen. You can delete these images from your memory card and retake the picture if you don't like the outcome of your first shot.In addition, you can use the LCD to help frame your camera shots, so you can see what the picture looks like without having to use the viewfinder.
  2. Digital cameras need recharging:Digital cameras are different from film cameras in that they need to be recharged. There are specific batteries or chargers that come with different digital cameras or digital cameras are formatted for disposable batteries to be placed inside.Generally, with film cameras, you will need to change the batteries pretty infrequently. In contrast, you will need to be prepared to change or recharge your digital camera batteries on a more frequent level.
  3. Digital resolution: The resolution of your digital camera pictures refers to the image quality and how many megapixels will compose the image as a whole. The higher level of megapixels, the better your image resolution will be.You should decide how high of resolution you will need for your pictures, depending on what you want to do with them.Generally, if you are planning on printing or photographically manipulating your images, you should probably use a 4 megapixel resolution or higher. However, if you are going to blow-up your details of your pictures to a large size, or display details on a very large screen, then you might want to get a higher resolution for your camera.
  4. Digital file types:Your digital camera will be able to store the digital pictures in different types of files.A knowledge of these files is also handy if you are planning on storing your photographs on your computer, on CDs, or if you want to send them in an email. Here is a list of the main types of digital camera files:
JPEG: This is a compressed file for your digital images, meaning that the pictures are small and fast. This type of file is the easiest to send in an email because the file is smaller.
RAW: These are files which are smaller than TIFFs, but allow for better resolution than JPEGs.However, only certain cameras use this type of file, and there is special computer software which is required to open these types of files.
TIFF: These files are very large. They allow for the best kind of resolution, because they don't have compression. However, these large files can also slow your computer down and take up a lot of memory.
