Choosing the right projector for your conference room

If you are considering buying a projector for your business then you need to know that not just any old projector will work. You are going to need to learn a little bit about projectors and what to look for so that you can choose the projector that is right for your business.

Here are some tips to consider when purchasing a projector for your conference room.

Tip one:
One of the things that you need to at is the brightness of the projector. All projectors put have a light output, which is usually expressed in ANSI lumens, which is the American National Standards Institute measurement of candle power. And how you are going to choose the right projector is going to be based on the type of environment that the projector is going to be used in. Something else that you need to know is that the type and size of the screen used can greatly enhance the apparent brightness of a presentation but on average the greater the projector distance and the lighter the environment the greater brightness you are going to need. Basically what this means is that if you have a dark room where no daylight prevails you can choose a projector of 1000 ANSI lumens or lower will give you an acceptable image, but if you have daylight conditions you are going to want to choose a projector with a higher rating of lumens.

Tip two:
Another thing that you need to think about when choosing the right projector is the weight of the projector. This is important because of the fact that the projectors are getting smaller and smaller, but how small you want your projector is going to depend on a few things. One thing you need to think about is that the smaller the projector the less amount of space exists around the lamp, which means there is less airflow available to cool the unit and extend the bulb life. Also you need to think about how often you are going to be using the projector, smaller projectors are not made for daily use, so if you plan on using it everyday you want to choose a larger projector that will last longer.

Tip three:
Something else that you need to think about is the resolution that is being offered for the projector, this is important because it is going to determine how well you can see the image that is being portrayed on the screen. How well you can see the picture and how clearly you can see the picture is expressed in pixels and the following terms are used for different projectors: VGA = 640 pixel width x 480 lines, SVGA = 800 x 600, and XGA = 1024 x 768. But one thing that you need to know is that the higher the resolution the better the picture will be, but certain formats are better for certain situations, If you plan on doing fine line drawings or presenting a variety of spreadsheets you are going to want to use XGA. Something else that you need to think about is that you are going to want to match your projector with the native resolution of your computer or other input source.

Tip four:
Another thing that you are going to want to think about is the contrast ratio, which is an indication of the dynamic range of a projector. What you need to know about this is that low contrast ratios offer poorer image distinction than high ratios, which is important for clarity of text. Basically the contrast ratio is combined with the brightness, resolution and projection distance to determine the image quality. If you are projecting from a long distance or in daylight conditions you want to use the highest ratio you can, otherwise you are looking for a ratio of 200:1 for good performance.
