How to be creative with your digital video

If you are taking hours of video but it all seems pretty blah, it might be time to add a little creativity to your digital videos. To some extent, creativity is a personal attribute and you get what you get. However, even a naturally uncreative person will be able to add a little pizazz and spice up their videos by following a few simple tips.

Edit your work-nobody's videos are all that great as raw footage. In fact, people who take the best videos are also the people that throw the most footage away. What you want to do is record as much as you can and then delete all but the key moments and the key players.Think about watching sports on the news.A three-hour ballgame can be captured very nicely in about 1 minute of well-edited footage. What you see on the news are the key shots, a couple of memorable moments, and maybe the celebration of the winning team (or the anguish of the losers).By approaching your home videos this way, your long and boring family holiday can become a warm and memorable couple of moments.

As long as you are editing, don't just take delete footage, you can add to the footage as well.Well-placed clips of audio can really make a difference when watching the video.Imagine that you are filming your new puppy walking down the hallway. It might be a cute video, because new puppies are cute but if you add a couple of seconds of the "Jaws" theme music the video gains a little life and tells more of a story. You image the little puppy is ready to do some big damage, you don't even have to show the damage, just cut away and let the viewer guess what might have happened.

You can use your editing program in all sorts of creative ways.It might be worth it to read a book or take a class to learn how to get the most out of your editing program. The more you learn, the more you will be able to do and your can produce a creative product, even if you possess little creativity yourself.

Video the unusual-everybody has a wedding video these days right?Instead of just shooting the ceremony, think of all the things that are involved in weddings that don't get shot. You might want to take some video of the little kids who fall asleep during the ceremony. You can get video of the guests as they arrive, the car getting decorated, the bridesmaids getting ready or the caterers setting up for the reception.

This is not just true for weddings but for any event that you might record. You want to remember all of the auxiliary details when you watch the video in 20 years. You also want to have plenty of pictures of the different people.Think down the road a couple of years. If you ever need to chronicle somebody's life for a roast or something, you will be glad that you took plenty of pictures through the years.

Do interviews-interviewing is kind of an art and not everybody is good at it but at least try it out and see if you are.By asking the right questions, you can add plenty of depth and humor to your videos.Little kids are great to interview because you never know what they might say or how they might say it.

By using your editing software, you will be able to put clips of different interviews wherever you want in the finished product. This is a great effect and will pass for creativity when you show the video to others.
