How to use a digital camera

Taking pictures with a digital camera is very much the same as taking pictures with a standard camera. The digital camera and standard camera have the same basic concept when taking a picture, just point the camera and push the shutter button. Of course, it isn't always just that simple, but taking pictures using a digital camera does not need to be a complicated process. Most digital cameras have a viewfinder, but some digital cameras have a LCD ( Liquid Crystal Display) screen. An LCD screen allows you to see the image before you press the shutter button and shoot the picture. The LCD screen also displays settings for the digital camera, and you can also delete pictures you don't want using the LCD screen.

Using a standard camera you are unable to view pictures until they have been developed. With a digital camera you have the ability to not only see pictures taken but also the option to delete ones that you may not like or want. This can save you time, effort and money. Digital cameras use a memory card to store pictures unlike standard cameras, which use film. Digital cameras often come with some kind of memory card to provide storage, but usually the memory card has only a small capacity of storage. This is especially true with cheaper digital cameras. But you can purchase additional memory for your digital camera to add more space to store and save pictures.

Digital cameras usually connect and download pictures to a computer. Some digital cameras require a computer card installed into the computer, other cameras may use a computer's USB, serial or parallel ports, and some cameras download through infrared and some connect directly into a computer slot. All digital cameras save pictures in a digital file format, such a PNG, GIF, or JPEG. The format that pictures are saved in will determine the amount of disk space needed to save a picture. Images are often large files and saving these images can take up a lot of your disk space. Compressed formats like JPEG, make it possible to save the images and save disk space. If you are planning to save a lot of images, it is recommended to use an external drive, such as a zip drive or a CD ROM burner.

A good graphics software program can be very helpful when editing pictures taken with a digital camera. There are several graphic software programs available, ranging from beginner photo editor programs to advanced photo editing software. Free photo editors are also available. Many of these software programs, will not only give you the ability to crop and rotate pictures taken, but also several options that can make your pictures fun. Such as adding borders to photos. Some pictures may not be able to be fixed even using the best graphics software programs. So try to always take a couple pictures of the intended subject.

You can email photos, save them on your computer or on a disk. You can also print the photos on your printer. For the best quality pictures, a high resolution ink jet or laser printer should be used. You should also use high quality photo paper to print the images on. Printing photos on your computer uses a lot of ink, but the money and time that you save, may make it well worth it.

No matter what you decide to do with the pictures you have taken using your digital camera, whether you are going to print them up or save them on your computer, experiment and have fun using your digital camera and the pictures you take.
