Bringing iPod's or other portable media devices to school is a controversial subject for most of the world. There are people, including teachers, who are in favor of allowing students to bring them to school, there are people who are intensely against bringing them to school, and there are people who don't have stronger feelings on way or the other. As a parent or educator you probably have strong feelings on this controversial subject and you probably have tons of reasons to back up why you feel the way you do.

No matter what the newest device is for the current year it always creates some type of controversy and schools has to adapt their rules to either allow or ban the devices from school. But what some schools have done is rather than fight the newest trends they are learning ways to incorporate the newest trends into their lesson plans for the students. In fact current studies show that majority of children now a days own an iPod or similar portable media playing device

With more and more children obtaining portable media devices, such as iPod's, it has become a major problem that the schools have to deal with. Some schools require that if students bring their iPod's to school that they must put them away in either their lockers or backpacks while school is in session, if they are caught using the device then the school will confiscate the iPod. Other schools do not allow any type of portable media device because they feel that it keeps the students socially isolated from one another. But some schools have gone so far as to buy iPod's for their classrooms to help assist in the children's education.

Bringing iPod's to school or having iPod's at school leads to use another question regarding podcasts and whether teachers should use podcasts in their lesson plans. If you do the research if podcasts are properly used they can be a great benefit to help improve our children's education. Besides the fact that using podcasts in schools helps to harness the children's obsession with iPod's and other portable media players, it allows children to use the newest technology available to them and create a fun filled learning environment.

While iPod's can go hand and hand with podcasting it does not have to be that way, so if you are a parent or educator who thinks that iPod's and other portable media devices should not be used at school or even brought to school you can still support the use of podcasts. While IPod's and other portable media devices are great tools for listening to podcasts they are not the only tools available. Podcasts can be created and listened to with just a regular computer and a microphone.

And since the only purpose an iPod or other portable media device plays in the podcasting process is for listening to the podcasts you can still ban the iPod's and allow children to get creative and share their findings with the world. And then they can use the iPod's at home to download and listen to the available podcasts. Also by using podcasts in our schools we are ensuring that there is appropriate material on the internet for our children to download and listen too. In fact some people have even created education podcast sites, so parents can allow access to those sites, but leave the more popular podcast sites blocked.

Just remember that regardless of how you may feel about iPod's and podcasting it can be beneficial to our children in helping to improve their education. What better way to help teach our kids then taking advantage of the newest trend and allowing our children to use it in a creative and constructive way, and this can still be done even if you don't think iPod's should be allowed at school.
