Storage: The first medium we need to look at for digital photography is the medium by which you store your digital photos. There are several different options for digital storage, including SD, CF, CD, Floppy disks, etc. Let's take a quick look at each of these:

SD: this stands for SanDisk. This is a well known brand and type of storage in the digital photo industry. These type of cards, or storage devices can be erased and rewritten, can be filled several times, etc. They are compact, hold a lot, and are easy to transport etc. Many digital camera's use this type of storage device. SanDisk is planning to release a new form of storage media that will provide archival storage for photographers. This new product will be unlike the typical SD card right now because it will be a write-once medium that lasts for up to 100 years. So, you do not erase and rerecord information, rather, like film, it holds it.

CF: this stands for compact flash. Flash memory is really huge. In digital cameras you will find a lot that use CF memory, however, because it is not as compact as a SD for the consumer based cameras you will find more SD cards then CF cards. However, CF usually has the capability of holding more memory, is harder to damage, and is harder to corrupt. So, you will find that CF memory is great.

CD-RW: this is a read write compact disk, and is a common storage device used for long term storage of digital photos. Many people will transfer their photos from their memory cards that go inside their cameras onto a CD, then erase the memory card so it can be used again.

Online: The next medium we want to discuss is online. The internet is a digital photographer's best friend. There are plenty of places that offer storage for you to upload your photos to. There is a great feature many different photo labs offer now where you can simply upload your pictures to their server, and they will print them in one hour. You can post your photos online for others to view, print, and share. You can start websites, you can email photos, etc. The tools for sharing and storing photos online are amazing and diverse, so take a look at them and see where your digital photography can go.

Digital photography is used everywhere, from graduation photos to photos to brochures and pamphlets. The uses of digital photography are immense, and the possibilities are endless. You can create Christmas cards in a matter of seconds, or get photos to your relatives that live far away.

One of the coolest parts of digital photography is the editing capabilities. It is far easier and cost effective to edit a digital photo than it is to edit film photography. Even amateurs can use programs like Photoshop to create stunning photographs from average pictures.

There are many different medium for digital photography, so take some time to explore them, and see what your options are and what fun you can have using this new technology.
