Podcasting in the classroom, how to improve education

Podcasting in the classroom is a great way to improve our children's education. While many teachers have already started using podcasting to help improve education, other teachers have not because they do not realize the benefits or how it will help to improve the children's education. Here are some reasons that podcasting in the classroom can help improve education, regardless of age.

Reason one:
Using podcasting in the classroom is a great way to help advance a student's development. Unlike many other tools podcasting requires the students to combine a variety of skills in order to make and create a single product. When they are making and creating a podcast it helps to teach them about doing research, communicating in print, to speak effectively, and how to grab people's attention. But children also have to learn some of the technical skills that are involved with making the podcast and publishing it on the internet.

Reason two:
Another way that podcasts help to improve education is that it teaches children how to work in a team environment. Teamwork has become a huge improvement in learning because it allows kids to work together to figure out problems, which also encourages them to develop problem solving skills at an early age. But aside from developing problem solving skills it teaches children how to work together as a group, which means they will learn how to play to their strengths and assign roles for various group members based on the other children's strengths.

Reason three:
Another way that podcasting helps to improve education is it creates a fun learning environment. Making and creating a podcast is a lot more involved and exciting then writing a traditional report. Children tend to respond better to learning environments that are fun and exciting. And podcasts help to create that type of learning environment because while they are still doing school work such as reports or oral presentations it is different then just sitting in a classroom and reciting what they have learned. They are able to add music and sound effects to their reports which makes the reports even more interesting for the other students to listen to. Children love to be involved in the learning experience and podcasts create something that the students can share with the entire world rather than just receiving a grade from a teacher.

Reason four:
Another reason that podcasts can help improve education is that the children are actually engaged in the learning process. Rather than just sitting their listening to a teacher talk for hours on end podcasts allow teachers to plan a lesson that involves the students. But another great thing about using podcasts in education is that students can listen to the podcast as many times as it takes until they understand the subject. Since some children only require hearing the instructions or information once to fully understand other children have to hear it a few times to finally grasp the concept.

Reason five:
Another way that podcasting can improve education is that teachers can record their lessons for each day for any absent students to listen to while they are at home or on vacation. This helps to prevent the children from missing a crucial day in school and stops them from falling behind the other students. This also helps teachers because they don't have to worry about creating make up assignments for students who might be missing an extended amount of school. By creating the podcast the student can do the same assignments as the other children and turn it in when they return.
