Podcasting versus blogging, which is more effective

Both podcasting and blogging are just as effective as each other; the main difference is the type of medium the listeners prefers. People who prefer to listen to radio or watch television are going to find the various podcasts are going to be more effective for them, but those who prefer to read books or magazines will find that blogging is more effective for them. So there is no right answer as to which is more effective it all has to do with the listener's preference.

Another thing that people might not be aware of is that podcasting is a form of blogging except it is done by audio. Yes blogging was created first but podcasting developed its form based off of bloggers. When you are creating a podcast you usually connect that podcast to a blog on your website to attract your users, so with podcasting you can use both written and oral mediums, but blogging is strictly written.

Another difference between podcasting and blogging is that blogging is a bit easier. With blogging all you are doing is putting your thoughts down into written form to let others know how you feel about a certain topic or you write a blog explaining how to accomplish a certain goal. Your blog is written in HTML code. With podcasting you actually have to record your thoughts instead of writing them done, so you have a higher chance of suffering from stage fright. Podcasting is similar to public speaking, which not everybody is successful at otherwise we would have a lot more public speakers. No you are not giving a speech in front of a large group, you are usually in your own studio by yourself when recording the audio but still just the thought that millions of people will hear you speaking is enough to scare anybody not accustomed to public speaking.

Another thing about podcasting is that creating a podcast requires a lot more work than creating a blog. With a blog all you have to do is type and proofread your typing until you have something close to perfection and then you simply have to post it with some software, such as Blogger. With podcasting you have to take a lot more steps to create and post the podcast. To start with you have to record the audio and then edit until you are happy with the sound and the content. Once you are happy you have to convert your audio file into a MP3 file so that you can export it to a web server. And once it is on the web server you still have to create a blog that describes your podcast. There is software to use that makes publishing and creating your podcast rather simple, but it requires a bit more work for you then a simple blog does.

When people visit your website to view your blog you do not have to worry about bandwidth costs because not many people are going to download the blog when they can read it right from the screen and save it into their favorites so that they can come back and check for new updates. But with podcasting you have to think about bandwidth rates because the entire idea behind podcasts is to download the podcast and listen to it at your leisure. So in order to use podcasting correctly listeners will have to download your podcast, which can get kind of expensive if you are hosting your own website.

But both podcasts and blogs have a feature that allows you to subscribe to the podcast or blog and be notified as to when new podcasts or blogs are available. This is called an RSS feed and both blogs and podcasts need the RSS feed to keep their customers returning to their page. The RSS feed automatically notifies or can automatically download the subscription that the user is subscribed too.

So there is really no right or wrong answer to which is more effective podcasting or blogging, it all depends on the user's preference.
