Coaching Tips for Powerful Presentations

Keywords: Speeches

It is an awesome responsibility and privilege to address an audience as a speaker. If you are a coach or business professional who wants to enroll clients from the platform, you need to connect and engage with an audience quickly and show them the benefits of working with you.

Tip #1 The purpose of your speech is to get results; to help people make changes and think or act differently.

Tip #2 Show your audience that coaching is a process. It is different from consulting.

Tip #3 Determine what kind of coaching the client wants and needs.

Tip #4 People learn in three ways: Visual (what they can see), Auditory (what they can hear), and Kinesthetic (what they can touch). Try to include all three ways in your speech.

Tip #5 People have short attention spans. Review your main points before you end your speech.

5 Lesser-Known Online Business Ideas

Keywords: Online Business

1. Ask people to find a hidden link in your ad copy. If they find the hidden link tell them they will get a prize or freebie by clicking on it. This will increase the chance that they will buy your product or service because they will read your whole ad copy.

2. Start a members only web site. Tell visitors what's in your members only site and what it costs to get access. Offer them a free membership, if, in exchange they link to your web site, post your banner on their home page or agree to advertise your web site in their e-zine for a set period of time. Usually they will agree to the free advertising to save money. This is a powerful way to get free advertising.

3. Want a popular discussion board? This technique is based on the number of postings made by any one person. You could give away a free product or service to any person that posts ten or more messages on your discussion in a month. It could be a free e-book, report, e-mail consulting etc. Just keep track of everyone's postings each month. This could also work for e-mail discussion lists.

Failure is Not an Option

Keywords: Motivation

I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that online businesses -- just like brick and mortar businesses -- have a very high failure rate for startups. Ever wonder why that is? There are several business consultants, success gurus, and motivational experts who can tell you. The problem is: Most of us don’t listen.

How many times have we heard the "success secrets" of the multimillion-dollar pros? Countless times we have all been preached to about setting goals, having a defined plan, giving it all we’ve got, and aiming high. Yet still, take a look around. The statistics of small business failures have not changed. In the first five years of starting a new business, the odds say that you’ll fail.

Ready for the good news? There is one thing I can tell you -- from personal experience, and from the experience of well-known, successful online business owners that I know. More important than setting goals, more than following a plan, more than shooting for the moon, is your mindset. Ask people who have succeeded online how they did it, and they are sure to tell you that they had to. That’s right -- they HAD to. Why? Because failure is not an option.

The 7 Principles of Business Integrity

Keywords: Business Ethics

If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don’t have integrity, nothing else matters. - Alan K. Simpson

If I were to ask you which attribute is the most influential in regard to the success of a business, would you know immediately which one is the most important? Based on my many years as a business owner and entrepreneur, I have discovered that at the very top of the list is the distinguishing quality of integrity. Without integrity at the helm of a company, a business is usually short-lived. In fact, when business integrity is present throughout the deepest layers of a company and not just at its surface, it becomes the heart and soul of the company’s culture and can mean the difference between a company that succeeds and a company that falters.

The Internet’s Immeasurable Impact on the Marketplace!

The importance of integrity has always existed among the business community, but in recent times has been shown as falling short. It is the Internet’s immeasurable impact on the global marketplace that is now making the expression of integrity, reliability and credibility extremely important. Furthermore, the consequence of global competition means that customers will simply not consider a company that shows any less than the highest level of integrity. Since there is a wealth of competitive companies easily available and accessible via the Internet, there is in fact no need to accept anything less than the best.

What One Thing

Keywords: Time Management

A few weeks ago I asked my readers what the most important issue was in their business. Hundreds responded with a variety of answers, but one of the most common was, "How do I get everything that needs doing done?"

Happily, I have an answer for this question, but like many things in life, it carries both good news and bad news. The good news is, if you are one of those fortunate few with access to unlimited resources, you can get everything done.

But that's really the bad news, isn't it.

Because among all the people I know - not a single one of them - not one - has access to unlimited resources. Even executives I work with whose budgets run into the hundreds of millions - even they do not have unlimited resources. Even they have to make choices and trade-offs.

Earl Nightingale once asked the question, "What one thing would you do if you knew you could not fail?" And Jack Palance's Curly in City Slickers, asked a similar question: "What is the one thing?"

Their questions contains seeds of the answer to this quandary.

Will and Vision

Keywords: Motivation

Remember Chux? The disposable diaper that took the market by storm in 1932?

Of course you don’t. Chux saw its product as a luxury item, and happily kept its little throwaway business to itself for almost forty years. Then Pampers came along in the 1960s, supported by a huge, mass-consumer vision with persistence to match, and blew Chux out of the market—transforming baby rearing forever.

And everyone knows the legend of the two Steves—Jobs and Wozniak—who invented the personal computer in someone’s garage. Only they didn’t. The Altair MITS came to market long before in 1975. It’s just that Steve Jobs had the mammoth vision of a computer on every desk; and Apple II became the first PC hit.

I just finished reading a brilliant book titled Will and Vision—How Latecomers Grow to Dominate Markets, by Grard J. Tellis and Peter N. Golder.

Working Hard at Smart Things

Keywords: Efficiency

"Don't work harder, work smarter."

If someone tells you that, watch your pocket-book-they are likely about to ask you for a lot of money for the magic "smarts" that will earn you millions.

Here's the reality: Success comes occasionally to those who don't work hard but work "smart," but almost everyone who succeeds takes a different tack.

They work hard at smart things.

Accept that as your "work ethic" and you will likely be successful. Work hard as well as smart.

We love to hear stories about people like Brad Fallon, who is now well on his way to earning $1 million his first year online. We fantasize about what that must be like.

But here's the part we often forget: Brad and his wife Jennifer worked very hard as well as very smart to get there. Just the shear number of orders they had to process was a huge chore.

The Simple Secret To Lasting Motivation

Keywords: Motivation

It is easy for psychologists to predict how successful you will be by observing who you spend your time with. Why is this true? Because your peer group exerts a massive influence over your behavior and your aspirations.

If you have friends who are highly driven business people, spend time with them whenever you want a motivational boost. You will feel charged up and more ambitious after meeting them. And it's fun.

Of course if all you did was talk business every evening your life would become one-dimensional pretty quickly.

At the other end of the spectrum you can also socialize with people who drift through life with no dreams for the future with no goals that really excite them.

Still, these are good people and you can enjoy their company. I do know however that if you spend all your time with your unmotivated friends you will over time question your drive and ambition.

Eventually you will become less inclined to set inspiring goals for the future and one day you might even give up on wanting to grow as a person.

The 6 Characteristics of A Successful Coach

Keywords: Coaching

It takes some special talents and behaviors to be a successful coach. In order to direct and positively impact the professional lives of those in your charge, you'll need to exhibit the following:

Empathy - Remember when you were the employee? Put yourself into those shoes again and identify with the emotions, thoughts, and feelings of others.

Compassion - Genuine concern for your employees is paramount. Yes, you want them to do a wonderful job and to perform to the best of their ability, but you should also feel and show authentic caring for the overall person.

Communication - Since coaching, in its most basic sense, is a series of informal conversations, you'll want to have the skills to interact with employees freely and effectively.

Organization - As a coach, you'll want to stay on track with the progress your employees are making. Follow-through is vital in order to help employees move forward with their plans of action.

Patience - Being a coach can sometimes be challenging. Be prepared to take lots of deep breaths.

5 Tips for Going Global

Keywords: Globalization

Import, Export, Global Markets...the buzz words of international trade are getting small business owners very excited. Why now more than ever before? In the past it would be too costly for a small business to survive global markets. However, as various technologies and service, such as the Internet and professional website design become more affordable, it's far easier for the little guy to compete. As the trend towards 'going global' grows, so does my business. I have the pleasure of guiding these enthusiastic new players through the global game procedures.

As The Import Export Coach, during my training workshops I'm often asked "How can I test my new product or market idea before deciding to fully commit my resources and finances to the project?"

Of course, I always recommend thorough research before jumping into any international agreement - there are no small deals when "Going Global" - players are ready to buy and sell in bulk. The more research you do, the more you minimize the risks. It's like a see-saw; the more planning you do, the less risk you experience, and the less planning you do the more risk you will carry:

However, it's not going to hurt your business to start making some contacts and begin the communication process with key players in that market. Below are some tips on how to quickly find valuable global prospects.

The Top 10 Ways to Overcome Procrastination

Keywords: Procrastination

When a person is bored or uninterested, certain tasks and projects can seem like torture! This feeling usually leads to procrastination, and procrastination often leads to guilt. Here are some practical ways to avoid these situations and overcome procrastination:

1. Recharge Daily
Be sure to get enough sleep and rest each day so that you have the necessary energy you need to accomplish your tasks.

2. Get a Friend Involved It's harder to procrastinate when another person is involved. If you have a task you aren't looking forward to, invite a friend over to help you out. If you have errands to run, find a buddy who you can run errands with.

3. Reward Yourself You're much more likely to complete that boring task if there is a dinner out or a new CD waiting for you when (and only when) the task is complete.

4. Do Things in Pieces Procrastination often comes from feelings of overwhelm. Break tasks, even small ones, into steps so that they are manageable and provide you with a sense of direction.

Creating Breakthroughs Now

Keywords: Motivation

As a business coach I have written a great deal about building a higher performance venture, creating breakthroughs, inventing the future, and generally moving faster than the speed of change -- or at the very least -- moving faster than your competitors.

The most important thing you can do now - right at this moment - is get moving on something that's going to make a big, a tremendous difference.

Reading this little bit of coaching and simply setting it down, even if you say to yourself "Wow! That sounds like it will work!" will, as you know already, accomplish nothing.

Pick a problem -- pick something you've been thinking about for a while -- and apply any and all ideas that you think fit that best.

Or pick any business coaching article at random and put it to work. You needn't start big (although that would be my personal preference) - start small if you like.

3 High-Impact Publicity Ideas

Keywords: Publicity

Every business needs to get the word out about the basics of who they are, what they do and why they are special. Well-crafted, focused messages about how a prospect can use your services or products are critical marketing tools for thousands of online entrepreneurs. Why? Because both prospects and reporters need a clear understanding of how you can benefit them.

As a business owner, you can attract a substantial and continuous flow of publicity and referrals quicker than ever before- just because you know what to say and how to say it. When you know your main points, you get results faster from all your promotional methods.

The three ideas below will help you figure out exactly what to say:

1. Shop Yourself

Get into your prospect's head by role-playing. Interview yourself from your customer's point of view. Write down the questions that you imagine your customer would ask.

Answering the question "What's in it for me?" from your customer's point of view is a guaranteed `cut through the clutter' way to figure out what to say in your promotional materials.

19 Questions to Supercharge Your Business Plan

Keywords: Business Plan

Paul Lemberg Whether you are seeking capital for your company or are optimizing your business strategy, the most important element - particularly for outside investors - may be your written business plan. You can tune-up and supercharge your plan using this 19-step checklist. When your written plan firmly answers yes to each of these 19 questions, your market/product strategy is in terrific shape plus you increase the odds of attracting investment capital.

If you don't already have a written business plan - write one! Your business plan is a blueprint for your whole company. It describes in detail your goals, the financial and technical viability of your goals, and the strategy you will use (or are using) to reach those goals. And your business plan is a working tool - it is a yardstick to measure your progress and a compass to keep you on course.

Must a business plan be written?

Yes! A plan which is not written usually has not been thought through fully. And despite what you may have read, it is doubtful that any business ever attracted capital on the back of a napkin.

Use this checklist as a way to identify where your strategy, as spelled out in your business plan, needs work. Each of the questions below highlights an area considered critical to technology investors.

Qualities of a Transformational Leader

Keywords: Leadership

“There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, more uncertain in its success than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.” Inscription From Machiavelli's Tomb

I’ve developed the following list of qualities needed by a leader who is trying to transform their organization.

Focus on what's possible, rather than on what is likely.

Seek new ways of working, new ways of getting things done

Seek opportunities in the face of risk

Value effectiveness over efficiency

Don’t react to circumstances, instead seek to shape and create new ones.

Emphasize individual responsibility for measurable results

Question old assumptions, because the are old assumptions

Seven Ways To Get Out of a Rut

Keywords: Motivation

Rut: a routine procedure, situation, or way of life that has become uninteresting and tiresome...

And not surprisingly, unprofitable.

They say a rut is a shallow grave with two open ends. The good news (good news?!) is that the ends ARE still open, which means if you act fast, you just might out of it.

How do we get into these ruts anyway? Who would voluntarily lie down in that grave, shallow or otherwise? Dr. Edward Debono suggests that thoughts are pathways literally "etched" in our brain as electrical connections, that get strengthened each time we think them -- thus limiting our mental options. Just like cow paths.

It all begins when one of the cows wanders home from the field along a new path. Being cows, others naturally follow, nicely beating down the grass. The next evening our intrepid cow is a bit less bold, and follows her own freshly trampled path, fellow cows in lockstep behind her. And so on, night after night, widening the path into a footpath, which over time becomes hardened into a dirt road. More time passes and the road is paved into a street, then an avenue, a two-lane highway, and ultimately an interstate.
