Successful ways to improve employee health through diet and exercise

yoga19198229.jpgDiet and exercise are undeniably the two biggest factors in improving employee health through maintaining (or obtaining) a healthy weight.Being sedentary is one of the biggest problems that employees with desk jobs face. Many times an employee feels like the work place is simply not an environment where physical activity and healthy eating can be enforced.Fortunately, even small changes can make a difference and there are certainly a good number of different nutritional items as well as physical fitness routines that you can do to improve your health at work. Let's start with improving employee health through diet.

Healthy eating and healthy functioning while at work can dramatically affect the way that you feel both mentally and physically.Take advantage of the simple diet changes that you can do while at work to become a healthier you.Eating healthier at work is a big thing that you can do to make a difference in how you feel and work.First, make sure that you remain fed.

It is when we feel "starved" that we tend to lose control and over eat or at least eat what we know is unhealthy.Prepare and prevent these periods of extreme hunger by making sure to eat breakfast before leaving for work and by packing a nutritious lunch. You also need to make sure that you remain hydrated. Many times people mistake the feeling of thirst for the feeling of hunger, thereby opting to eat more when really all that may be needed is a glass of water.Make sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water during your day.Remember that water also helps to cleanse your body so remaining hydrated also means losing less time to feeling sick or irregular.Another thing that you can do to improve your health through your workplace diet is to plan for the urge to snack. There is nothing wrong with having snacks during the day. What many people make the mistake of doing is visiting the vending machine and choosing a "snack" that is less than nutritious.Pack your own snacks and take them to work.Make sure that you have fruit, veggies, or raw nuts as all three of these will help calm your grumbling stomach and provide you with energy boosting nutrition. An additional benefit is that you will save a significant amount of money by cutting out visits to the vending machines for candy or soft drinks.

Improving employee health through exercise is a little more tricky but still entirely possible.Exercising at work requires more thought and self motivation, but it is quite simple to do.Little things like improving your posture, flexing your stomach muscles, or walking up and down stairs can really add up.Make a conscious effort to find opportunities to work out and keep moving.A good place to start is to research how you can make your workspace more ergonomic.By repositioning the height of your chair, creating a foot rest and ensuring that your computer is at a good height and distance, you can avoid such problems as back pain, muscle strain and carpal tunnel.Other suggestions for improving employee health through exercise is to encourage employees (and yourself) to ride a bike to work, take a walk during lunch time, and find other ways to integrate physical activity into everyday work life.

Successful ways to improve employee health through diet and exercise are really just a matter of being creative and thinking of changes that work for your situation and then putting forth the effort to prepare to eat healthy before hand and to be willing to take control of your physical well-being during the day.Avoid being passive about your own health and you will inevitably reap the benefits of a healthier lifestyle.
