One of the biggest challenges facing any business owner is finding the capital that they need to keep their business up and running, and most importantly growing. It can seem like there are not enough hours in the day to find the money that they need, yet if a business fails to devote some portion of their time and efforts to this endeavor, it is unlikely that the business will succeed in the long term. Because of this it is important to understand what you will need to do find investors, for your business. Having a plan and properly preparing is essential, to finding investors who will be willing to invest in your business. Here is what you need to know about how to find investors for your business-

  • You must have a well written business plan-Investors will want to see that you have developed a plan as to how you are going to grow your business. A well written business plan is essential, for attracting potential investors'. You will need to show that you have done sufficient research to back up all of the information that is presented within your business plan. Throwing in haphazard figures or ignoring sections of the business plan will most likely get it tossed out of consideration by most investors. Keeping mind that not only will you need to be able to show what you will do with their investment money, but how you will be able to provide them with the potential return they are looking for.
  • You must have a well developed marketing plan-Marketing and sales are the lifeblood of any company. You will have to be able to show potential investors that you have a way to successfully market your products and services, as well as sale them. If you have not developed a marketing plan that will attract the interest of your target market, there is little chance that it will attract the interest of potential investors. In addition to a well written marketing plan, you will need a working sales function. You must be able to show that you can get your products or services, to you customer after they have been sold. Investors are looking for long term growth, so any company looking for financing, must be able to show that they have this type of long lasting infrastructure.
  • You must be able to show market potential-Investors are looking for companies that can not only be successful in the market, but hold onto their market share over time. You will need to be able to show potential investors why there is room, for your products or services in the market. If you cannot show that there is a market potential, it is unlikely that you will gain any financing. Keep in mind that you must also be able to show how you will hang onto your market share. If your products or services will need to be adapted over time, to hold onto the market share, you will need to show what modifications or changes that you have planned, for when this needs to happen.
  • You will need to show that your business is being run by experienced management-One of the top reasons that investor's state as to why they passed on an investment is the lack of trust in the experience and expertise of the management. Savvy investors understand that they are not just investing in the products or services of any particular company, but in the people who run them. You will need to be able to demonstrate that everyone who is in a management position within the company is experienced and able to do their job. A lack of experience in the management structure is all that it takes, for many investors to take their money and look for investing opportunities somewhere else.
