To those of us who know little about the industry of manufacturing, we probably do not see plant owners as having to compete with each other over business. In addition to having competition here in the United States, manufacturers must continue to stay competitive in international markets as well. Add to this pressure the increase in consumer demands that has been placed on manufacturing plants to be more innovating, earth-friendly and to produce high-quality products quickly and you can see why manufacturing plants could use any competitive edge available.
There are safety risks in any line of work. But of course the field of manufacturing is generally considered more dangerous than most because of the volatility of some of the machinery and materials that are used and the increased severity that a manufacturing injury could produce.
