Best Diet Pill

Diet pills are everywhere. The diet industry grosses hundreds of millions of dollars each year. And with the obesity rate in the United States at an all-time high and growing steadily each year, millions of people are searching for the fastest, best way to lose weight, and for good reason. Obesity contributes to a number of health problems, including high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, and diabetes, just to name a few.

With so many pills, powders, potions, and other weight loss tools available, it can be difficult to determine whether or not these pills are a good way to lose weight. While it's easy to buy into the celebrity-endorsed pills and diet trends, the fact remains that unless prescribed by a doctor, weight loss pills are ineffective at best, and can even be dangerous.

There are a number of diet pills on the market. Most of these, if not all, are scams. They include so-called metabolism boosters, carbohydrate blockers, fat blockers, and fat burners, among others. All diet pills have side effects, many of which are potentially dangerous and even lethal, including abnormal heart rates, elevated blood pressure and strokes.

Many times, the diet pill bottles will claim that best results occur when the diet pills are used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise. However, a healthy diet and exercise in and of themselves will result in weight loss, rendering the diet pills ineffective and, for the most part, useless.

Prescription Diet Pills
While over the counter diet pills should be avoided, there are a number of prescription diet pills that are doctor-prescribed and can help those who are obese lose weight. These pills are usually designed to be used short-term in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise.

It's important to remember that prescription diet pills are designed for the morbidly obese, not those who would like to lose 5 or 10 pounds. (Obese is defined as someone with a BMI of over 30).

Best Diet Pill
Meridia is one of the most popular and effective prescription diet pills prescribed today. It works by signaling to the brain that the person is full, causing its users to eat less and feel fuller longer, so weight loss results. Meridia is prescribed in conjunction with a low-calorie diet.

Meridia is designed for obese people who have a BMI over 30, or those with a BMI of at least 27 who also suffer from heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, or any medical condition that is life-threatening and exacerbated by being overweight.

Meridia is not a magic pill that results in immediate weight loss. Most doctors say that on Meridia, patients can expect a significant reduction in weight in about six months, in conjunction with the low-calorie diet. Roughly half of the people who stayed on Meridia and maintained a healthy diet kept all of the weight they lost off over a period of two years. Those patients who took Meridia for one year lost an average of 14 pounds, while those in the same study on a low-calorie diet without Meridia lost an average of 4 pounds.

Like any drug, Meridia has side effects. The most common are dry mouth, constipation, and insomnia. Most side effects associated with Meridia have been mild enough that patients have continued to remain on the medication.

For those who are medically obese, Meridia may be a good weight loss option for them.
