Dealing with leg pain
If you want to avoid blood clots and reduce leg pain, it is important to stretch and exercise your legs everyday. The muscles should not sit in the same position for more than 45 minutes. If you do have to sit all day, get up and walk around at least once every hour. What often happens to workers that sit all day is that they start to put on more weight because they are not as active as usual. This excess weight can hurt your body in numerous ways. Your arteries will start to become filled with plaque and fat deposits. As the arteries become more constricted, the heart has to work harder to push the blood through your veins. Poor circulation will develop along with cholesterol, high blood pressure, and even diabetes. The legs will begin to ache when you exercise them. Some people experience this leg pain at night while they are trying to sleep. You might even feel this leg pain during the day as you are sitting at your desk. There are several things you can do to stop leg pain. The first thing you should try is to eat healthier and lose some weight. If you can get to your targeted body mass index (BMI) for your age and height, your body will be in better health all-around. Individuals that smoke are at an increased risk for leg pain. Since they are starving the blood of needed oxygen, it is common for the leg muscles to get the least amount of oxygen due to poor circulation. If you are a smoker, consider giving it up. Quitting smoking will do wonders for your health and even give you some extra years of life. Take a look at your diet. Is the food nutritious and helping your body? Greasy hamburgers and oven-fried chicken are not going to do much to help you lose weight. Fruits and vegetables are some of the best foods out there for your body. Instead of grabbing for the potato chips, choose some celery sticks with cheese or apples with a little Carmel dip. If you have high cholesterol, you need to consume more whole grains and vegetables to lower it. Eating healthy really will start to reduce your leg pain. Exercise is the best way to reduce your leg pain. When you are at your desk each day, do some exercises to strengthen your legs. There are under-the-desk bicycle pedals that really can help you move your legs while you are sitting. You simply pedal away while you work, while it may not give you stronger legs, at least they are moving and the blood is circulating instead of pooling. In the beginning, exercise may not seem like it is improving your leg pain. Normally you will have an increase in muscle pain for the first 2 weeks while your body starts to get used to it. If you have chronic knee pain, wear a knee brace while you exercise. Make sure you stretch your legs muscles each day to keep them limber. When the muscles are healthy, the leg pain will go away and it will be much easier to carry on with your normal work routine.
