If you are going to be providing your employees with health insurance there are a few things that you should be aware of before you make the final decision about if you really want to provide it or not because of the cost involved with providing health insurance. However, not only does cost become a factor in providing your employees with health insurance, but your employees health also plays a huge role in whether or not your company qualifies for health insurance coverage at a decent price or in some cases, it can determine if you can renew your policy the following year.

Here are the basics things that you are going to need to know about employee health.

Number one:
When looking for health insurance for your employees you are going to need to shop around so that you can compare prices on the different types of health insurance plans that are available. When comparing the different plans you will want to look into the different aspects of each plan to see what they have to offer, you also need to ask for references from the company that you are dealing with so you can see what other companies have to say about the health insurance plans. You want to pay close attention to how long it takes the insurer to pay their claims, so that you can get a feel for the reputation of the business. If they take over three months to pay their claims not many doctors are going to want to work with them.

Number two:
Before deciding on what type of insurance plan you are going to get for your business you are going to want to look into all of the features that each plan you are considering offers. Some health insurance plans are going to offer 100% paid for preventive care, such as well child checkups and physicals, while others will require you to pay a portion of the deductible. You can also find health insurance plans that offer wellness programs as a part of their insurance plans. Choosing plans that have 100% paid for preventive care and wellness programs are a good choice to encourage your employees to become healthy.

Number three:

By providing your employees with health insurance coverage you are actually putting your company on the road towards better employee health. Even though you will be on the road to better employee health there is still some things that you can to do to help improve your employees health. You also want to have employees who are in good health so that you do not get denied for health insurance coverage, many times small businesses who have employees with a pre-existing condition get denied health insurance coverage or have to pay high premiums.

Number four:

You also want to have employees who are in good health because sometimes policy writers will actually refuse to renew your policy if you have an employee who gets seriously ill. Most people think that this is an unfair practice; however, not all states have made this against the law. Therefore, if you promote good employee health through wellness programs and other tools you can work towards keeping your health insurance in effect and at the lowest price possible.

Number five:
Offering wellness programs for your employees is one of the best things that you can do to promote good employee health. The wellness programs that you can offer can include good nutrition, stop smoking classes, fitness programs, and many other topics. By providing your employees with these wellness programs you will be providing them with the tools that they need to start living a healthy life, which if they are healthy they are going to better their lives but also save the company money.
