Getting your employees to lose weightOverweight employees cost their employers billions of dollars a year. They are twice as likely to take sick leave and they visit the doctor more frequently than their healthy co-workers. To combat the high cost of obesity, several employers have begun encouraging their employees to lose weight. There are several types of wellness programs you can implement that will encourage employees to lose weight, here are a few things you can do to help your employees lose weight:
Tip # 1 - Hire a fitness expert Have the fitness expert meet individually with your employees so they can develop a good exercise and diet program for each one of them. The fitness expert will be able to discuss their body image and how they want to be seen by other people. All of your employees will have custom plans so they can work hard at losing their weight without the pressure to do exactly what their co-workers are doing. Tip # 2 - Motivation Keep your employees motivated by offering healthier foods in the company cafeteria. Start offering juice instead of soda and try replacing all the unhealthy vending machine snacks with healthier alternatives. Make sure your employees understand the importance of portion control if they are serious about weight loss. This is a big part of weight loss and it can be next to impossible to lose weight when you are eating 2 large salads instead of one. Tip # 3 - Evaluations Hold the evaluations outside and go for a brisk walk when you are discussing weight loss challenges with your employees. This encourages them to get outside and enjoy some fresh air while you are trying to find ways to help them stay motivated and on-target with their goals. Keep your employees motivated by offering incentives for weight loss. If you are offering incentives for weight loss, keep a scorecard so you know how everyone is doing. Give them an overall estimate as to where they lie on the scorecard so they can push themselves to work harder.
