Good eating habits at the office

When it comes to dieting and eating healthy at the office, many Americans find this to be a difficult task. This is because it is common for employees to run to fast-food restaurants for lunch and eat unhealthy foods like cheeseburgers and fries. Then there are the employees that bring their lunch to work, but they eat at their desk. This doesn't give their bodies the rest it needs from the stress of the office and it can be detrimental to your health.

Sitting in front of the computer screen during your lunch break will hurt your eyes, neck, back, legs, wrists, and other areas of your body. In order to have good eating habits at work, plan your lunch ahead of time. Pack your lunch the night before and make sure you include some fruits and vegetables in your selection. When its time to take lunch; go away from your desk to eat. If you don't have a company break room to eat, go to your car. Try going outside and eating your lunch under a tree. You may even have enough time to lie down and take a quick power nap.

Lunch is the perfect time to get away from the office and just relax. Eat your lunch within 10 minutes and then take a 30 minute walk. This exercise will rejuvenate your body and give you the extra energy you need to continue on with the rest of your workday. Make sure you stretch your legs and other muscle groups in the body. Lunch is the perfect time to give your body a good stretch and keep your muscles healthy and strong. Since blood clots are increased for people that sit all day, it is vital to your health to make time to stretch each day.

When it comes to selecting your lunch, pick some healthy options. Soda is great if you want to have a nice gut. If you need to have a soda, opt for diet sodas, they don't contain any sugar and calories and they won't pack on the weight the regular sodas do. Avoid purchasing food from the fast-food restaurants. Go to a grocery store and pick out your own. It may even do you some good to buy a whole loaf of bread, and then you have some bread for lunch throughout the week. Lunch is a great time to get some much-needed vegetable and fruit servings. Chicken salad can give you a real boost of energy to finish your workday because it is packed with protein.

One of the biggest problems people have with meals is portion control. Watch how much food you are actually consuming. It isn't good to eat 2-3 times the recommended serving size. This is why the serving sizes are there, to keep your weight under control. You need to have pre-packed portions or else you can easily over-eat. Lunchtime should provide you with a meal that makes you feel full, not stuffed. You want to pick a meal that is moderate in proportions.

Try drinking more water throughout the day to keep you feeling full. Soda actually makes you hungry, where water and milk tend to make you satisfied. Water also helps you lose weight because it flushes out the toxins and fats that stick to your body.

Bring some healthy snacks like carrots and celery to snack on when you are at the office. It is inevitable that you will get the munchies at least once during your workday. If you have healthy snacks ready to go, you won't have the temptation to grab a snickers or a bag of potato chips.
