However, employers are trying to find ways to help their employees, exercise at work. Many companies are doing after realizing the multitude of benefits that having health and fit employees brings to their bottom line. Employee wellness program are springing up in companies both large and small. Whether the program is extensive with an onsite gym, cooking classes, and medical screenings, or smaller with incentives being given for walking at break times, or discounts to local gyms, all of these options are helping employees get fit and work better.

However, if your employer has not caught onto the benefits of having an employee wellness program, there are still things that you can do on your own and ways you can exercise at work. While exercising at work may not be a full-time substitution, for a full-blown workout, it can help you get on a path to fitness and most importantly help you maintain it. There are lots of different options for staying fit at work. Best of all many employees report that when they take time to try out some exercise options, they have much higher energy and can work more productively after. While it can take some planning and creative thinking there are lots of moments that you can exercise at work. Just pay attention, get some inspiration and get moving on these ideas for exercising at work-

  • Start with the basics-There is options that everyone knows about. Always take the stairs when you can. Park as far away as you can walk to the office. Deliver things by hand, and don't be afraid to lift some boxes.

  • Instead of using a chair, use an exercise ball. This will help to strengthen your back and abs. You will find that without even trying you have much better posture.

  • If you work at a desk or workspace, make sure that you get up at least every hour and move around. Set a timer to remind you, and remember that even if you just do a few stretches, you'll feel better.

  • Always take the stairs when you are going to another floor.

  • Buy a pedometer and use it!They are affordable and can let you know how much you are really moving. You should keep track of how you are doing everyday and set a goal to get at least 7,000-10,000 steps in everyday.

  • Try to send as few emails as possible, deliver whatever information you need to by hand.

  • Pack a brown bag lunch with healthy food choices, and walk to a nearby park, for lunch.

  • Take your calls on a headset, so that you can move around your office while you are talking.

It is important to remember that some movement is better then nothing at all. Just be creative and use your time to make exercise a part of your day. While don't have to do sprints all through the day, if you add just short amounts of exercise,throughout your workday, it will help you to burn more calories. Best of all it will also help you reduce stress and help you to be more productive.

There are also pieces of equipment that you can have in your office that will help to make getting some exercise easier. You can keep ankle weights, a resistance band, and some dumbbells tucked inside a desk drawer. If you don't want to have to power with bringing in equipment, keep in mind that all you really need is your desk chair and some large, full water bottles that you can use as dumbbells and, for resistance.
