Low-carbohydrates Diets

Low-carbohydrates diets are meant to reduce insulin levels in the body, thus making your body burn fat. The diet focuses on eating foods without many carbohydrates, and when you do eat carbohydrates, you are supposed to replace breads and such with fruits and vegetables.

Some of the good things about the low-crab diets would be that they are supposed to cause weight loss. That is why many people do them.

Also, short term tests showed that low-carb diets helped with heart disease and type two diabetes. Despite the saturated fats and extra cholesterol intake it seemed as though theses factors were reduced.

It must also be taken into account though that they could not do these tests for long periods of time and the result over a long period f time is unknown.

There are also many arguments against low-carb diets. One of these arguments is that it has harmful side effects. One problem is that there is not enough dietary fibers eaten in low-carb diets and could result in constipation.

In the Atkins diet they had this problem and added into their program that a fiber supplement should be taken during the Induction phase of the diet.

Another thing that people argue is the fact that in low-carb diets the increase in protein could be very bad for you. For one it could cause stress on your renal system and cause increased risk of arthritis.

Having too much protein would also affect the body because of the increase in cholesterol and saturated fats eaten. Doctors and such say that this could lead to heart disease in the future.

Also, having so much protein intake could overwork your kidneys which could lead to bone loss.

There is also the fact that if you are cutting out carbohydrates, you may not get a lot of very important nutrients that you need out of fruits, vegetables and grains.

As for health, low-carb diets would probably be rated at about a six, and only that high because long term health tests haven't been able to be studied.

A diet like this probably wouldn't be very hard to implement since you get an increase in foods that are more appealing, like meat, and a decrease in foods that aren't as appealing, like vegetables. So for implementation it would probably be about a seven.

For people who are busy, low-carb diets wouldn't be very hard because it is a whole lot easier to find a meal with meat in it in a hurry than it is to find one that is full of fruits and vegetables in it in a hurry. So for the busy lifestyle this would be rated at a nine.

As for family friendly, it gets a five. Children are still growing and they need all their nutrients to help them grow healthy and strong. It would be terrible to take a risk with their health and try a diet that could very possibly harm them.

Finally, it would get a seven for adherence. A diet like this may be great at first, but it would probably be wearing on the body after awhile to eat such an increased amount in meat and a decreased amount in fresh foods. And if your body was feeling weary, it would probably be very hard to stick to.

Low-carb diets may help lose weight but they do not look like they are the smartest choice. The risks are too great and the good things about them have not been able to be thoroughly proven. To get into with these risks seems a little scary.
