Having a healthy work environment is good for both the employees and the employer. Healthy employees are more productive, happier, and take less sick days. Exercising and eating healthy

If a company encourages their employees to work out and get physical activity, their employees will be healthier. Most employees have a busy life filled with a family, work, and other engagements leaving them with little time to exercise. There are other reasons or excuses that employees have for not being able to work out. Some don't have the money for gym memberships either. Companies can provide a way for their employees to find the time and money to exercise in a couple of different ways. First, an employer can provide a little bit longer lunches to allow their employees to use the time to exercise.
Second, an employer can pair up with a local gym to offer discounted memberships for their employees. An employer can encourage exercise by offering rewards to employees that lose a certain amount of weight, or work out a particular number of days during a month. A group from the company could get together and play sports once a week, or train to and run a marathon or half marathon.

Encouraging employees to eat healthy is another way to make the work environment healthy. The vending machines in the office should only contain healthy foods such as fresh fruit and low calories snacks. When having an office birthday party, or any type of party, healthy foods should be brought to the pot luck and eliminating the birthday cake with the fattening frosting would be a good idea too. Serve something such as frozen yogurt instead. Employers need to take the time to teach their employees about eating healthy.

Not spreading germs

To make the work environment healthy it is essential that employees who are sick stay home. It would only make it worse if they don't take their sick days when they really need to use them. By coming into work when sick, employees run the risk of spreading the sickness to the entire office. Having more than one employee sick at a time can be detrimental to a company, or at least put them very behind in their work. Employees should remember to wash their hands often. Washing their hands after using the restroom is always a must.

To help decrease the germs that are spread from person to person, the office must clean their equipment often. Keyboards, desks, and phones can sometimes be as dirty as a toilet. Since these items get used so often each day, it is important that they are cleaned thoroughly.

Another important aspect of a healthy office is making sure employees are happy. Happy employees are sick less often and do a better job at work. One tip for an employer to help keep their employees happy is to encourage them to laugh often. Employers can do this by having a joke of the day or allowing employees time to laugh and joke during ten minute breaks throughout the day. Another way employers can help employees be happy is by encouraging office unity. Employers should look for volunteer jobs that employees can do outside of work to help them bond. Rewards can be offered to encourage the participation of many employees.

Employees also need to feel valued to be healthy. Employers should make sure to thank employees for a job well done and encourage them along the way. It is also important for employers to listen to the suggestions of employees and use the suggestions that seem to work for the specific situation.
