Promoting healthy workplaces
If one person is sick and they come to work, they will probably infect several of their coworkers with the same cold. To combat this, employers often encourage sick employees to stay home. What about the employee that doesn't have any sick leave? There are a couple things you can do to help your sick employees. If they are able to still perform their job, but they are sick, you can put them in a separate office. Have a designated office just for the employees that are sick. Then, they can work in that room where they are isolated from other healthy employees. Make sure you clean that room well and that the employees use antibacterial hand wipes before they leave the room. Since most head colds are airborne viruses, there is still a good chance that other employees will get sick. So you need to ask yourself if it is better to force the sick employees to come to work or if you should just send them home. If you can promote a healthy workplace, you will cut down on the amount of employees that are absent. When employees are healthier, they work harder and they are much happier with their jobs. Making simple improvements to increase employee health will let them know how much they are appreciated. Make sure you have enough money to offer your employees better working conditions like new computers, telephones, and flexible work hours. You can easily promote a healthy workplace by getting rid of the foods that cause obesity. Employees that eat healthier foods while they are at work have increased energy, better memory capabilities, and they feel better. Eating a snack of carrots and celery is much better for your body than a candy bar or a bag of chips. By getting rid of all the junk food in the office, you are taking away the temptation to snack for most of your employees. There are still a few employees that may bring their own treats with them. The only way to reach these employees is to enroll them in a diet and exercise program with the company. Provide your employees with activities that promote health and overall wellbeing. You can create this environment by dedicating a separate room to exercise. Purchase a treadmill, an elliptical machine, and some other exercise tools for employees to use. Encourage your staff members to use the exercise room during breaks, lunchtime, or even before or after work. Several companies have even purchased treadmills for offices and employees walk on them all day instead of sitting down at a desk. There are even companies that have replaced their office chairs with exercise balls. The exercise balls promote good posture and it gives the employee a nice lower body workout while they are working. Another way to promote a healthy workplace is to make safety improvements. Make sure your employees are safe from several hazards. Whatever your particular field may be, you need to be in compliance with federal and state health regulations. If things are starting to get old and you think it could become a hazard, you may want to consider replacing it. For example, if you run a dental office and your office chairs are getting old, you should start looking for new chairs before one malfunctions. It would be terrible if the chair broke and fell when you had a client getting their teeth cleaned.
