If you have tried to quit smoking, you may have tried nicotine patches, nicotine gum, and other methods. Most past-smokers claim that the easiest way to quit smoking is simply to quit cold turkey. This method isn't always feasible for everyone. If you want to quit smoking, but you don't know how, here are some smoking cessation methods to try:

Nicotine Replacement
Some people are so addicted to nicotine that they need to gradually wean off of it. Nicotine replacement comes in the following options: nicotine gum, nicotine patches, nicotine nasal spray and nicotine inhalers. The addiction to nicotine causes a person to have immediate satisfaction if they consume it. The difference from a cigarette and a nicotine replacement product is the person gets the immediate need for nicotine, but in a smaller dosage. If you opt for the patch method, the nicotine in your body will remain the same throughout the entire day. This way you won't get a craving because you are remaining constant with your nicotine intake. If you have tried to quit cold turkey and you can't get through the cravings, the nicotine replacement products may be perfect for you. Nicotine replacement products try to help you get off cigarettes within 3-6 months.

Medications
Zyban has been used to help smokers give up smoking for good. The pill doesn't get rid of the urge to smoke; it simply boosts dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain and gives your body additional energy. When people smoke, these same chemicals are released in the brain and this is how they start to get addicted to cigarettes. In order for the pill to be effective, people must have a strong willpower to give-up smoking. They need to be able to control their cravings and have a strong commitment to quit smoking. Zyban cannot help you quit smoking unless you put in some serious efforts on your part.

Other methods
A lot of people have been able to completely quit smoking by turning to alternative methods. Exercise, acupuncture, and hypnosis are extremely popular for people that are trying to quit smoking. Exercise is excellent because it releases the chemicals in your brain and they cause your body to have an increase in energy and stamina. When you get a craving for a cigarette; turn to exercise because it will help you get your mind off of the craving.

Deep breathing is another popular method with people that have quit smoking. Since a lot of people turn to cigarettes when they are under stress, deep breathing can help to relax the body. Close your eyes and breath in through your nose for 10 seconds, hold the breath for 5-10 seconds, and release it through your mouth. Repeat the deep breathing process for about 2-5 minutes. This will increase the flow of oxygen to your blood and it can cause your body to feel rejuvenated and energized.

Hypnosis has become extremely popular for people that are trying to quit smoking. Hypnosis works by putting the mind into a focused concentration state. It causes the body to go into deep relaxation and it can help to fight off the temptation to smoke. Hypnosis only works if the individual gives consent to a trained professional to use it. Like other methods, hypnosis does require effort on your part. You must have the desire to completely give up smoking if you try hypnosis.

Acupuncture has been used to stimulate muscles and other parts of the body. People have turned to acupuncture for years and now many people have found that it can help them quit smoking. Acupuncture will only work if you are committed to quit smoking and you have strong willpower to do so.
