Steps to making your workplace a healthy one
Smoke free workplace There are many rules when it comes to smoking around a building. There are some buildings that only allow smoking 25 feet away from the actual building and some may not allow smoking near the front of the building or neat entrances. To make a workplace a healthy workplace, it is best to decide where someone should be able to smoke. Smoking in the back of the building, not near entrances or windows will be healthier for those inside the building not smoking.
It could also be helpful to employees who smoke for their employers to encourage them to quit. Employers could offer classes teaching employees about the harmful effects of smoking and tips to help them quit. Knowing that they have people helping them to be healthier can help employees quit smoking. Office wellness program A great step that an employer can take to make their workplace a healthy one is to begin an office wellness program. Wellness programs help employees learn about nutrition and exercise and how to handle stress. The company can hire someone to come in and evaluate each individual employee and teach health classes to the employees. A wellness program can drastically change the health of employees for the better. Nutrition In a wellness program, employees can learn about the Food Guide Pyramid and how to follow it. They can learn about eating a variety of fruits and vegetables to help them fight of diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Employers will be taught how to make healthy choices when they go out to eat and when they are shopping for meals at the grocery store. Learning about nutrition in a wellness program can promote employees to eat healthier at work. There are other ways an employer can help their employees learn about nutrition besides a wellness program. If the office has a vending machine an employer can take action and change the foods and drinks offered in the machines. Dried fruit is much healthier than candy bars or fruit snacks, and fruit juice, milk, and water are better choices than soda pop. If the vending machines have healthy foods in them, employees are more likely to eat those foods. Another way for employers to encourage healthy eating is to order something such as sandwiches instead of pizza when the office is providing lunch. Exercise room or gym membership An office wellness program will teach employees how to exercise and the importance of it. An employer can help the wellness program in its efforts to get the employees to exercise in several ways. One, employers can put together an office softball or volleyball or other sports team to play in a community league. Two, they can also sponsor an event such as a marathon or at least attend a marathon as a company. Three, employers can team up with a local gym and offer discounted gym passes to their employees. If employers allow their employees to workout during lunch they will definitely help to make their workplace a healthy one. If there is extra space or an extra room in the office that is big enough, an employer could put a few workout machines in the office. Having workout machines so close can encourage employees to exercise each
